Backpacking in Taiwan? Find Hualien Hostels

"This hostel is my favorite in Taiwan. It's very well located just right in front of the main train station in Hualien and bus station to go to Taroko and other places. The double bed in a dormitory is very comfortable and with some privacy due to the curtains. Pillows are comfy, clean and big, also the bed. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They clean very well every single place in the hostel. There are free tea and coffee, and some convenient facilities to enrich your stay. It has a cozy decorated, and places to socialize. Highly recommended, don't think twice, because is value for money"

"Location is very strategic and convenient because it’s very near Hualien station. Wherever u wanna go in Hualien, it has the best location to go from because most public buses and trains are all accessible here at Hualien station. It’s a green building hostel and easily spotted across from the station. There’s a cafe at the entrance of the building, or other alternatives like 7-11 is just a stone throw away. Beside the building is Hualien’s very famous Mochi Store which tasted superbly good. Hostel service was really beyond expected. Months before check-in date I was already contacted by their staff members via WhatsApp regarding on our itinerary and booking assistance whichever that we required. Or even just a simple enquiry that u may have about Hualien, they would be glad to answer or assist with. We managed to reserve 2 outdoor activities that we wanna participate in Hualien through their assistance in the bookings and the best part is we could make payment on our check-in date itself, without going through complicated bank transfers or emailing of personal documents. Through WoW Hostel helps to save up all the hassle and complicated procedures. Hygiene for the hostel is really, really clean. I have never seen such a clean hostel and their hygiene really impressed me. Facilities of the hostel is very pleasant and cosy. Very old school/retro vibe environment and simple toast and coffee provided for Breakfast every morning. Beds are quite comfy and sufficient space provided for luggages, adequate privacy and space if you’re staying in dormitory style rooms. Language communication maybe a bit difficult if you can’t communicate in Chinese, but some of the staff there knows little English so they will try their best to help u. Overall it’s super value for money, I will always come back here if I ever get the chance to travel around Hualien the next time."

"Nick is a wonderful and thoughtful host. He upgraded me from mixed to female dorm without being request or with any additional charges. Yayers! Upon arriving, Nick will explain all the to-go and to-eat at Hualien with a photocopied hand drawn map. He will be able to assist you with tour bookings & arrangements. :) Place is clean and cozy, equipped pretty much all the basic needs for travellers. Bed and blanket are superbly comfortable too. ;) "

"The hotel was a 5-minute walk from Hualien train station as well as the feeder bus station to Taroko National Park (runs as early as 7:00am onward). It was extremely solo-travel friendly with all the necessary brochures and maps to help you get around the city. The entire place was very clean - helped by the fact that you're only allowed their hostel slippers beyond the reception. Bed was comfy as I took a single-unit room to myself (Queen-size) with a nice shower and basic shower amenities all covered. Eateries are aplenty around the area as well (two 7-11's within a minute from each other and also local eateries). Highly recommended. "

"Really great experience in Bayhouse. Everything more than my expectation! Staff there are friendly and willing to help anytime. If you have an opportunity to stay there, must try the foods recommend by them, really nice which won't disappoint you! Room is big and comfortable, books are avalaible in the room just makes me feel like home. Although they said to have no breakfast included in the room price, but coffee, tea are always available in the pantry. Bread, jam and even toaster are available also. I believe it is an ideal breakfast for a relaxed holiday morning! Of cause you can treat it as a supper also! It may be difficult to find the hostel when you first time there, but it is actually very convenient, walkable distance to shopping area and night market, and just 7 or 8 mins walk to Hualien train station. Over all, I like everything there! And really regret to have planned only 2 days there. Will definitely choose this hostel again next time if I plan to go Hualien again!"

"It's an average hostel in terms of decor and look and that goes up to spectacular because of it's location. Stay in Tianxiang to get much more convenient access to the Taroko Gorge walks instead of staying in Hualien or Xincheng. It feels a bit on the pricey side, but considering the lack of other options and its relatively secluded location it's pretty good. Try to get a room facing the mountain, it's an amazing view. Staff are friendly and accommodating Only negative was the food, very oily veggies for dinner and breakfast, but a lot of breakfast is like this in Taiwan. "

"Staff was warm and friendly. Before reaching the hostel, the owner contacted me via email to ask for my arrival time and gave me a detailed map on how to walk to the hostel from the train station. Within 5 mins walking distance from Hualien railway to the hostel. Really near! His assistant gave me an orientation on the facilities in the hostel and the attractions and delicious food in Hualien. The dorms and toilets are really clean. Even though the rooms are shared but there is a television attached for each bed and curtains to ensure privacy. Towels are changed everyday. I really enjoyed my stay at Hualien because of the warm hospitality provided by the owner and his assistant. Will go back another if there is another opportunity:))) Before I leave they gave me free postcards on the attractions of Hualien:) A really memorable stay at Just Walk Hostel:)"
