Tabanan hotels & places to stay

This hotel is basically the hub of Balian, perched right in front of the local surf break that draws many of the visitors. The location is perfect, and you can watch the waves while you eat breakfast or sip a cocktail by the pool, so the setup is optimal for surfing families. If you expect a five-star resort you might be a little disappointed...the free breakfast is good but otherwise the restaurant is so-so. The rooms are rustic, with lots of character but you'll be sharing the space with ants and lizards. The surf break is great when it's on, but while we were there the swell was too big for much of our stay...it's 30 minutes by scooter to Medewi which holds up to a bigger swell. The staff are awesome, friendly and personable. We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a charming, rustic and quiet visit to a chilled out slice of paradise.

Only stayed one night as we had booked a hotel for the week, but I was told about this place and wanted to have a look. Will definitely stay longer next trip to Bali. Eco Stay is an oasis of peace on the southern slope of a mountain, far from the madding crowd, in harmony with nature and the local village. They grow their own organic produce, has an excellent restaurant with views to die for and six or seven bungalows secluded from each other, each set in verdant green gardens. The property has its own stream, a twelve metre waterfall with plunge pool, mountain springs with crystal clear water that you can drink from the tap. John, the owner, is committed to the local culture and treats the staff as family. A truly refreshing and harmonious place for those seeking soil revival amongst lush gardens and rice paddies. Did I mention it's 500 metres above se level, cool breezes, no need for aircon ...

The staff were so friendly, gave us free rides to ATM. Which are far, so make sure you bring enough money with you. The food at the restaurant was very good and cheap. The breakfast was great! The beds were super comfy. We would recommend this place to anyone. We are sad we didn’t get to stay longer!! Christna(manager), Darma(driver) and Waran( restaurant manager) all went above and beyond with us and our children.

It is a bit hidden but our driver and the hotel staff managed to get us there. The tent was awesome and it was nice and cool at night time. The lovely girls that greeted us with a smile carried our luggage, on their heads, down to our tent. That was impressive. A view steps down from our tent we found the restaurant and reception. We were welcomed by the rest of the staff, were given a welcome tee and had a qick chat while we checked in. The food was lovely! The service so warm and nice. Waking up to such a stunning view was amazing. It's a place to relax but they offer nice activities too. They also hot a jacuzzi you can book. I regret that we only stayed one night. I would recommend it to everybody who wants to see more of bali.

This resort has the nicest restaurant setting surrounded by lilly ponds and overlooking the pool area.The villa deluxe rooms are really big and have the nicest semi outdoor bathroom with a big bath right in the middle of a fish pond area.Sometimes at dinner there might only be 1 other couple so you get looked after really well and the selection of food and the price is great.The breakfast (all included) is some of the best I have had in Bali.There is a nice safe walk that starts right at this resort and takes you south through all the rice fields and you can even walk all the way to Taman Ayun temple in Mengwi if you are up to it.The local villages are just beautiful and so safe to walk around and soak up all the Bali hospitality.If you are there for one of the many Balinese festivals it is not hard to get invited and take part.All up a fantastic place to stay and immerse your self with the Balinese lifestyle

We knew little about BMR and only got to know from the internet. Although we had been advised about its location, we managed to find our way quite easily (thanks to the map provided by BMR). We enjoy the tranquility, the staff friendliness, Rani's warmth welcome, the accommodation, etc. We would like extend our appreciation to the female staffs who not only manage the restaurants but also manning the reception and answer to all the enquiries. I would highly recommend BMR to those who wants to experience a relaxing stay in Tabanan.

This was the first place we stayed after arriving. We were a bit worried as we approached as it is quite near one of the main roads north, but once you turn off, it is really peaceful and you cannot hear the traffic. The guesthouse is lovely. Peaceful with views over the paddies. Bikes to hire so you can take a cycle through the fields. It is near enough to Tabanan, the south coat and ubud that you can go for a day trip. The little pool is nice. The only thing that left it down is the food which is basic. This is partly because I am vegetarian, so choice was limited, but partly because it is fairly fast food. Luckily there is another guest house with restaurant just around the corner, so we went there to eat after the first night. Breakfast was OK, but not special. Staff are lovely.

We loved our stay at the villa and were made to feel very special by Asrie and her wonderful staff, nothing was ever too much trouble. The food was delicious ranging from crayfish and prawns to the best chicken soup I've ever eaten. We wandered along the beach encountering only local fishermen, went exploring the terraced rice paddies and visited local temples. If you're keen to get away from it all and off the tourist track whilst still enjoying a little luxury then the Rumah Pantai is perfect. We loved the place so much that after one night in Ubud we realised that we had made a big mistake and rang up and asked for our room back...apparently this has happened before!

This place is truly a hidden gem in central Bali. No need to use conditioner or watch TV, you can stare the sky during night to see the twinkling stars, and cycling in the field would be nice (although we stayed up too late to do that). One of the cons is it's really far away from thing, Suggest to bring food before check in. Staff was very helpful and even helped to bring me to a small local market to buy foods and drink. Hot water needed to be reheated every 30 mins when one has done his/her showering is also another con.

My husband and I stayed for three nights, at the end of our three - week - vacation on Bali, at the Luku Villa. We loved our stay there in the middle of nowhere and would´ve liked to stay longer, but couldn´t, because our flight back was already booked. The staff was very friendly, the whole hotel was in great shape. It was clean, you had a lot of space. A perfect place for newlyweds. When they realized, that it´s our honeymoon, they decorated the room in a special way with lots of flowers, even the bathtub and we got a small honeymooncake. They were very attentive. The hotel has two bicycles for guests. The bikes don´t cost you anything and you can ride them to get to Tanah Lot, which is only 3 km away. Food is a little bit more difficult, if you don´t want the food the hotel offers you. You can either drive to Tanah Lot or you have to walk a while, but then you´ll find small places, where you can eat and you´ll find some small shops as well. If you don´t want to leave the hotel, because you want to relax in private, it is perfect, but if you want to get around you need a bike, car or motorbike. And Transport to the airport costs you 250 000 IDR. When we left, we also got a small present from the hotel, a beach sarong. I thought that it was a very nice gesture. We loved it, can recommend it and would come back anytime.

We absolutely loved Villa Hellen! Great location, friendly staff, very clean rooms and walking distance to everything. Great place for relaxing and value for money. Owner (Magnus) is very helpful and friendly. Villa is only 2 years old and by far the best place to stay in Balian. Sea view from everywhere, easy access to restaurants and surfing spots. Will be back for sure!

Liked our stay so much we stayed for more. Got some motorbikes from the hotel and explored the area. Tabanan has some gorgeous rice fields and beautiful black sand beaches reachable by motorbike in around 15 minutes by motorbike. Staff at the hotel was happy to help with our trip planning, picked us and and drove us back (charged) to and from our next destination and made our already pleasant stay (thanks to the nice rooms, swimming pool, green surroundings and nice Balinese cottages) even more pleasant.

The staff is super nice and the breakfast is excellent. You can rent a motorbike for 60k a day. There's a shower outside for when you come back from surfing. The atmosphere is really relaxed, with the trees, flowers, birds and the sound of the ocean nearby. I took away a star for location because it doesn't have a view on the sea and for value because you can get cheaper homestays but it's still a very good one.

Definitely worth the effort to stay at this charming Balinese hotel, surrounded by green paddy fields. The hotel is lovely and comfortable, with a private conservatory off of each room and great shower room with orchids and plants growing in the room in a bed! It oozes old world charm and Balinese style and although a long drive from Denpasar its worth the time and distance to discover another part of Bali. You need a car or motor bike as its out of the way. Great hotel to unwind in and totally get away from the hassles of the world. Staff are super friendly but slow service - which doesn't matter when you are in Bali! Great food but not cheap by Bali standards. Gardens are heavenly, but the pool takes courage to swim in as its cold. The evenings are chilly so take some warm clothes. But visit - you won't regret your stay!

This place is amazing. You feel completely secluded and relaxed. You are located near a babbling river and surrounded by the most amazing hot springs. It was just lovely. Also, there is a Nasi Campur place located near the entrance of the hotel (at the road side) that has the most amazing red rice nasi campur I have ever had. It is only 10,000 IDR and you will remember it forever. The red rice is from a nearby rice field.

Great hotel at the countryside area. Blackout happened for around 2 hours, it affected the whole area around there. Thus, we had our "candle dinner" in the restaurant, the hotel was still able to serve our dinner with no electricity. No air-conditioner and ceiling fan provided, only standing fan was provided in the room, but it didn't cause any problem as the surrounding temperature was cool enough. I like the way the hotel served the breakfast. Breakfast was prepared according to our orders, no buffet style.

We probably found one of the very best place in Bali. Here, it’s not just about sleeping but more about sharing precious moments with local people. Interesting talks with Adi, the owner, culinary and cooking experience with Kedek, and of course nights with guitars around the fire with friends of theirs. It was truly amazing, best experience so far in Bali. * amazing stuff to see in the area (jatiluwih rice fields, batukaru temple...) ** hoping to be back soon Thanks again for everything !

Pros: nice room with good AC, comfy big bed, everything very clean, best shower in Bali, small nice warm pool, free coffee and Tea facilities are a nice add on, Linda keeps the place real tidy and well kept after! Cons: some noise from other guests and motorbikes (parking directly in front). Stayed 8 nights - nice surrounding area (ricefields). Will come back in April!!!

I simply love this place. I came back after finding it at the tail end of my last visit 3 years ago with hopes that it was still as wonderful as I remembered. I was not disappointed! The four villas have a lovely view of the ocean and giant cliff cove. You can use the pool at Gajah Mina next door (a much more expensive place) for 50,000 Rupiah per day. They also have a restaurant with amazing food if you want something that Krisna Villas can not provide, such as organic salads or fresh fish. The rooms are simple but clean. I recommend using a mosquito net to protect you from falling lizard poop though, a common hazard in Bali. The hot shower was surprisingly good. The first night I was there, the other three villas were rented by a group of young travelers who were a bit loud until around midnight. The other two nights were completely quiet. The best part for me was being able to access a beautiful beach down the nature path about 10 minutes away. I walked for hours each day and only saw a handful of people, all but one were local fisherman and their kids…and absolutely no trash! If you're into surfing and more nightlife you can walk in the other direction about 10 minutes as well. The waves are huge so only plan on swimming if you're experienced! Lastly, I needed very little from the staff, but they were all very sweet and responsive during my short stay. I hope this little oasis remains untouched…it's so very different from the other beaches I've visited. Enjoy!

The place is neat and clean and the people who run it are lovely and helpful. The rooms have several complimentary products: water, toothbrush and toothpaste, tea and coffee. The shower is great and has hot water, which is a bonus in Indonesia. The negative aspect is that the rooms are VERY tiny and they have NO window, so the feeling is a bit claustrophobic and the quality of the air is poor. Internet works perfectly. Get ready to hear the mosque chants in the middle of the night.

Fantastic eco-lodge ,perfect place for a couple. The restaurant served romantic private dinner on the balcony as order. Beautiful room with creative decorations,love the bath and love the rain shower. Everything during our stay was just perfect - staffs, massage or swimming pool . It's hard to say this isn't the most stunning place you could stay for this money . Everything is absolutely incredible!.

We enjoyed our stay, the hotel is located in a tranquil part of Bali. For those who look for a relaxing stay without traffic and hoards of tourists this is the place. Don't expect anything fancy but what you get is good. Literally on the beach and very close to beach restaurants and bars. Admitting it takes a bit of an effort (organised by the hotel) to get there but once you are there relax and enjoy. We are fam. with two small kids, they enjoyed it a lot, beach and pool what else do you need!
