Underrated Hostel”
Great hostel, one of the few still open, but a good one near the Brunswick estate so good for shops (waitrose, sainsbury's etc). Near also to Kings Cross, and Oxford St, The Beitish museum. My favourite aspect is the kitchen so you can cook instead of the usual fast food or cold food. The lower ground rooms can be a bit musty though but it is generally a bright, modern, clean hostel. Recommended. Special shout out to Kurt at the reception.

Central and easy living”
I stayed in a six-bed dorm, and had no problems while I was there for three nights. I would especially like to thank the security guard Ahmed (Muhid?). He was so kind that he just gave me some of his dinner one night I came back late and a padlock for the storage box. Top guy!

Awesome ”
Originally I book the room for 8bed-girls room, however after I registered the room just realized the hostel receptions give me the 8bed-mixed room. After I feedback to them, they are very helpful assist change a better room for which have 6bed but still the mixed room, but as long as it's more comfortable than 8bed room. And I'm very appropriate the hostel receptions customer service, they are very helpful and kind. And the hostel's location is very convenient also near the Russell square metro station, thanks the Smart Russell Square Hostel make my trip so colorful ;)

Cheap, good location, a choice for short stay”
This hostel situated right next to russell square. Easy to walk around in the heart of London. They provide me with free London map which helps a lot for my budge trip. The wifi is stable. They allow me to check in a bit earlier which is really good. But there is no elevator in the hostel so u have to carry all stuff on your own. The breakfast is so and so. Basic bread with jam and cereal with milk. The hygiene is ok in the room. Shared bedroom is 3-decker bed. You can just bow when you are on the bed. It is fine to have a short stay but pick another onw if you have a long stay.

Excellent breakfast and position!”
The position is great 3 tube stops to Leicester Square, a Tesco, a Sainsburys, the Brunswick commercial centre and the underground at 5 minutes on foot. The included breakfast is a very good buffet consisting of coffee (nescafé), tea, milk, cereals, tropical/orange juice, bread, toasting machine, butter, marmelade and nutella. The rooms had they personal toilet and shower and they were very small with triple bunk beds. Each bed had it's own curtain and power socket (but without any light or small shelf) and there were also four other power sockets just left of the main door. At check in you are provided with a smart card which allows you to enter the hostel common areas, your rooms and the lockers under the bunk beds (unluckily you can't use your own lock, but you have to rent the electronic locker at 1.5£ per day). The kitchen was very good with 2 microwave ovens, 2 fridges and a powerful 4 elements electric stove with plenty of pans and pots to cook what you want. Summing up the only drawback was the room size which had almost no place to dress (toilet in this case comes handy).

Very nice hostel with experienced and nice staff”
Quick check-in when I arrived close to midnight. Good beds and although 8 persons shared one room, it was close to sleeping in a private room due to the curtains covering the bed. An extra bonus was the free really good breakfast before leaving at Christmas Day. Later I found out that all public transportation including Heathrow Express were closed down that day and the taxi charged double fee for driving to Heathrow! Fortunately, when visiting Hyde Park I went to Smart hostel Hyde Park View and they helped me to order an Uber. Very customer friendly staff at both hostels.

Great location and clean ”
The Hostel is just a few minutes from Russel Square Tube Station, check in is very fast and efficient as well as check out process. Breakfast is only cereal and bread with the juice and coffee and tea. The advantage is all bunk bed has close blind curtain make more privacy when sleeping.

Great for short stays, avoid for long stays”
Pros: - Excellent location, 1 min to Russell Square tube station so great to get around. - Affordable at ~£100 a week. - Great privacy with curtains on each bunk and a power socket. Bring a multi board with you to plug in more devices. Travel adapters are available at reception for £5. - Super quiet in comparison to other hostels. This is probably due to the fact that there's no onsite bar. Cons: - Rooms are saunas with no air con, even in the colder season! Try to get a North facing room with actual open windows (205 and 208). My south facing rooms had mesh covering the windows with almost no air flow. My room on the first floor was north facing but windows were boarded shut. This was the only room I'd stayed in with a small aircon unit on the ground, though it didn't cool the room, was loud and you'd only feel the aircon if you were in the two bunks next to the unit. - Staff are generally pretty unfriendly, even for London standards you just know they don't wanna be there. - Stairs. Lot's of them. - Kitchen and dining area are reserved for staff providing breakfast untill 10.30 am. Make other arrangements if you're not having the continental breakfast at the hostel. Note the breakfast is £2 and is only toast, Nutella, jam, butter, corn flakes, oats, OJ, apple juice, coffee and tea. - Kitchen is super small. In the evening after 6pm it becomes quite hard to get in there. Try stick to microwave meals as getting use of the oven can be a long wait. - Laundry rooms are reserved untill 3pm each day for staff. There was one working washing machine and two dryers whilst I was there. A nightmare to get one as its so busy. Note there's a great laundromat up the road that's about £5 total, same price as the hostel but no queue and better facilities! - The combined shower and toilet ensuite rooms are so tiny, it's easier to use the communal showers instead. In saying that, 205 and 208 had good sized separate shower and toilet rooms so I'd recommend those rooms over others.

Very friendly staff, and excellent location. ”
Now, there is a lot of steps going up to first second, third... floors. But, all those steps makes up for the location. This Hostel is located between two major train stations in London, and it is situated in a very safe neighborhood. I would highly recommend this Hostel.

Yes, it's a hostel. What else can you expect?”
Me and my partner stayed here for one night as we were participating in a 2-day national competition and wanted to stay in somewhere cheap. The hostel staffs are nice but the rooms are a bit iffy, in my opinion. After check-in, we were asked to pay 20 quid worth of deposit, which is pretty normal. Then we were given two sets of bed linen - yes, we have to make our own bed (and return it to the reception on the day of check out). We stayed in a 9-bed dorm which basically contains 3 3-layered bunk beds, lockers and a basin. All of those were pretty basic. As I only brought a shoulder bag with me, I didn't use the locker. The sad thing is, we didn't really had a good night sleep since the sound insulation was just terribly bad. You can hear clearly whenever someone walks near the room, so are when they speak. The beds are also pretty shaky, you can basically hear any movements that your dorm-mate makes. For breakfast we were only given the choice of cereal, full fat milk (hurray!), bread and butter. I'm happy with it but if you're not, there are two vending machines that sells confectioneries and drinks located in the dining room. You can pop to the Costa Cafe near the Russell square station if you want to get some decent food, also. After all, you get what you pay for.

Excellent”
I stayed 3 nights in this hostel and I enjoyed it, a warm welcome, well located it's about 5 minutes walk from the British museum, the cheapest you can find in London, the only problem I think is the surface area too many people in a small room with a lot of bags. Breakfast is okey (2£) there is a locker in the room (1£/night).

Cheap & central. Hideous room, terrible nights sleep. ”
I stayed here for one night in late October. I got a bed in a shared room for very cheap, obviously this is ideal if you're a young traveler on a budget wanting to stay in central London! But saving money can come at the expense of your well being...I have a motto of 'you get what you pay for', and I think next time I'll have to spend a little more for the sake of a good nights sleep. In my opinion its false economy if you get a cheap room but the worst night sleep of your life, and thus the next day of your life is spent feeling like sh**. So yeah you saved money, but spent a lot more in terms of stress. The room I stayed in was just awful - a small, long room with very high ceilings, which meant that three triple-story bunk beds were crammed into it. The beds rocked and wobbled like crazy each time I climbed mine, and whenever the sleeper above me moved or climbed up/down, the disturbance was hideous. Someone might as well have been shaking me with their bare hands. The beds were also very small, smaller than a single bed, and cramped. No where to put luggage either. There was no ventilation except for a small fan. It was VERY hot and VERY uncomfortable. Last but not least, the noise from the neighboring room was super loud and intrusive. I know its a cheap hostel in central London, but not everyone chooses to stay in one of these because they're interested in bar crawls! All I could hear almost all night was a hoard of yelling, drunken yobs. After a night of tossing, turning, noise and a quaking bed I spent most of my morning feeling crap, and it showed. Who wants to feel like that when they're having a weekend in the city?? I don't understand why some of these cheap hostels can't have half of the hostel a more peaceful zone, and the other half a party-goers/pub-crawl zone. I don't think it would cost much to do that! The staff at reception were nice. The bathrooms were alright. Just basic, like college toilets. At least they weren't too grubby. Although I will

One of the best values in the area but at a cost...”
One can get some of the lowest prices here which is great since the beds are comfortable, the place is mostly clean, and it's in a nice part of London. Staff is hit or miss, some friendly, some not. It's a huge hostel, complete with security. The place feels safe. The common area is large and at time a bit noisy. Rooms can be quite compact. There seems to be a much older male clientele here. It's unusual they charge you to use the lockers. The public showers are too hot and you have to push the release valve ever five seconds which is annoying. Love having curtains on each dorm bed. Some of the long-term male tenants think they can be rude since they have been there so long (in other words talking on their phone in the rooms at 7am, taking up more space than allotted to them, etc.)

Average hostel with crowded rooms”
Stayed at an 10-bed shared dorm which is absolutely too crowded given the size of the room. Other than this the hostel is average quality you can expect, shower is on the basement level which isn't as convenient as many others. Room ventilation is bad. Russell Square is a great location for those who are interested in visiting British Museum, reachable within 10 min walk.
