Sidemen hotels & places to stay

It's a new-ish hotel so I'm hoping they're simply still trying to find their footing and will resolve any issues in the future. You can't beat the room and location for the price. Beautiful views of rice fields depending on which room you're staying in, nice semi-outdoor bathrooms, comfy beds, throw in a couple of cute dogs that hung out outside our room. The problem is they are wholly unprepared for the number of guests when we stayed (which wasn't many, but it was full). The location was a bit out of the way and it was rainy so everyone was stuck there for dinner which was fine. But then it took 1.5 hours for them to serve our food, and they brought us the wrong order and served rice with my chicken instead of fries as listed on the menu (they claimed it was because I had put my order in Indonesian, which was a bit racist). I sent the order back and asked for fries, but at that point we got sick of waiting and asked them to bring the food to the room. They did, but then hit us with room service charges the next day! We were dumbfounded when they showed us the bill. But yeah, my suggestion is stay, but definitely do not plan on having meals there unless you know ahead of time the place is empty. Also, the Wi-Fi was really bad (only at restaurant) and mobile reception was almost non-existent. Due to all these issues, we left early morning instead of waiting til check out time.

Room was well thought out, including a closet with hangers, plenty of outlets, comfortable bed and terrace with a sitting and eating area, great shower pressure & hot water and even hair dryer! Bit out of main town in small village of Luah, nestled against the Bukit(hill). About 25 minute walk to center of Sideman town, though you can reach some small stores and restaurants/Warangs in 5-10 minutes. You’ll want to eat here on your deck. We did this for 4 dinners and were never disappointed. Excellent chef! Excellent view from the terrace of rice fields and Mt Agung (when clouds are not covering it). Best view is early morning which, unfortunately, you will be woken up to view with the village temple down the valley blasting morning prayer through loudspeakers at 6am. Apparently the loud speakers are new addition last 2 months. Owners said they are trying to work with the village head people to address the loudness. Otherwise, great stay.

First of all, we love the hotel and the area. It is a good place to stay and tranquil yourself from everything else. The view of the mountain, ricefield, sunshine. What else do you want for a holiday. Moreover, the natural sounds from the frogs, flowing water makes you relax at night. There are activities to make you moving: walking in the rice terrace, yoga, and for more further exploration you could go to tirta gangga or virgin beach. It took around one hour from sidemen, the beach is very worth it. But if you wanna drink coconut, you should bargain max is IDR 15,000 , not more than that.(insider tips) The surrounding of the hotel is very quiet and not many restaurant. For lunch, I reccomend to go to organic cafe, the food is okay but the view is spectacular. It is around 10 minutes drive. The breakfast is okay, they have asian and western menu. For lunch and dinner, we try the ribs , fried rice, corn fritter. The ribs is okay but for the price , its still fantastic. After a long day, the beer/wine could help to end the day while sitting in your private balcony looking at the mountain and green ricefield (depending on the months), we are lucky that everything is so green. The environment of the hotel is very nice, they put a positive remarks near the pathway. I do not know about others, but we as a family after reading these motivational quote make our day more positives. Details! What we think that the hotel could improve on: - Not all the room have a phone. This could be troublesome for the guest to call for room service. Especially if they do not have a local number to call the hotel or during rainy season. - As the concept of the hotel , I guess is, living in natural environment, I think a window string to cover up windows would be necessary. Even the bed have net covering the whole bed, the insects are a lot especially if you turn on the lights as they attracts many insects to flying around the lights eventually going in to the room. Lovely place to relax and recharge, especially after a hiking trip to Mt. Agung. Falling asleep to the sound of the river water was a bonus. The room was fan-cooled, which was enough to help us feel comfortable during the hot day (with the option to dip in the pool if we felt a bit too warm) and at night it even felt chilly. The young staff are very friendly and attentive. For those driving to the guesthouse: The bridge that takes you over the river from Sidemen area to the guesthouse collapsed recently, and it will be sometime before any repair is made. Therefore, to reach the guesthouse, one needs to go past Sidemen, past Muncan to Sanggem, and approach the guesthouse from the north. Using Google Map and just old-fashioned asking the locals helped us find the way. Despite this minor inconvenience, we would definitely consider returning to this quiet spot in Bali on our next visit.

Lovely place, very clean, good wifi, very well designed and lovely family who own and run it. It's a 5minute walk to town and market but there are shops and restaurants very near here. Beautiful garden with shrines. The maps all show it is the wrong place it's not on the road, when the gps says you have arrived turn left and there is a lane on the right up to it. There is a warang at the bottom of the lane turn right about 50 foot that serves great food. Breakfast is good but a bit sweet for us. Jack the owner is great and a lovely person he can areange trips and onward transport. Only negatives are the area is a bit noisy with dogs and chickens. The curtains are very thin so the light wakes you.

We enjoyed our stay at Kubu Alas. It was lovely and peaceful having a whole little villa and garden to yourself. The room was very clean, and bed linen spotless. The girls running it were very lovely and helpful, cooking a delicious rice noodle and vegetable dish for our dinner (like mie goreng...highly reccommend). The shower wasn't great and was mostly cold, but that wasn't too bad. Was good to be able to rent a scooter straight off the hosts so we could explore into sideman and the surrounding scenery. The whole area is quite damp with a lot of moisture in the air, and cooler than further south places of Bali we had previously beed. Overall would highly reccommend staying here for a nice clean, comfy and peaceful place to stay.

Great accommodation, friendly and welcoming staff and glorious views of the volcano. We were made to feel very welcome. The food in the restaurant is excellent and would highly recommend. We also enjoyed several massages arranged by the hotel and rented a scooter for 50k. Very good value for money and would recommend without hesitation. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. Thank you!

They have two bungalows and few apartments. All are spacious, well equipped, clean. All are surrounded by perfectly maintained garden with small swimming pool, spa and meditation place. The views are breathtaking. Silent place where you can really relax. The village is in waking distance. Several warungs available where you can eat as alternative to hotel restaurant. Have some experiences with other hotels in Sidemen area. Cepik is in my opinion the best.

We loved our stay in Teras Bali totally. The whole Sidemen is lovely place - with just a few turists, "naturally" living local people, stunning setting under the volcano in the middle of rice field terraces. The hotel ist just perfect. Clean and quiet. Especially we loved the view from our balcony in front of the highest placed room. We recommend Warung Ume Anyar for lunch (it takes long time but the food is super delicious).

We have been to Sidemen about 20 times. We are working our way through all the accomodations. This one was great. It was actually upstairs that we stayed. This gave us perfect security day and night and we never closed our doors or windows. The infinity pool was beautiful. The staff made dinner for us at the pool kitchen and it was fresh and tasty and we were the only people. Nothing to fault here and we will return

Come here for the most peaceful stay of your life. Incredible views from both balconies in our villa; cool breeze and music from the valley floated over us at night. I am going back to Bali just to stay here again. The manager Kadek was so helpful and relaxed - never pushy. I would recommend this place for a girls trip, couples trip or family trip. Can't recommend it highly enough.

This is a little gem. The most perfect location to be in the local environment overlooking the rice fields and the subset of volcano is beautiful. The staff are very friendly and helpful and put on lovey entertainment in the evening. The pool is stunning. There is no AC but if you have a top floor room the foors can be left open at night not to mention the view you have when you wake up. The rooms are beautiful and huge with flowers in the room and water. Only recommendation is more sun beds available when it is busy. Also our water ran out a bit quick at shower time but not sure if this was just our room but we didn’t have excessive length showers. Highly recommended overal. We will return

Bebek biru seems to be a single building made up of the larger apartment upstairs and my room underneath. My room was large with a very private balcony with a lovely view. I have stayed in Sidemen several times at Sawah Indah and Abian Ayu. I was very surprised to find out that these 2 outstanding hotels are part of the same company. Bebek is lacking all the special details of the other 2 hotels. There was an old, used, soap bar in the shower, some litter left in the garden, very old painted walls and floor tiles, ok but stodgy breakfast. If you are a couple, the bathroom is completely 'open' to the room, just a net curtain, so you better not be shy. Nice view, but everywhere in Sidemen has that, there are better places.

Quiet and serene in rural Bali. The Hotel is very well kept and extremely clean. The many small water fountains have the qualities of a quaint Japanese garden. The rooms are generous and the beds comfortable. I was greeted by Made on arrival, he was a delight and offered me lunch even though it was later in the afternoon, I had the Nasi Campur, one of the best and freshest I've had in Bali. A walk down to the river is recommended, the water is crystal clear with a gravel road running along it's course. Would highly recommend Griya Valud if you are looking for calm and peace in a beautiful rural setting.

Go there for the swimming pool, which is really nice with the view. Food is overpriced and average, you can find cheaper and better if you walk just 2 minutes outside of the hotel. Quite old hotel but it's OK. I recommend a rice field tour in the sunrise with Kadec (you will find him easily on Tripadvisor, he's really well noted!). A lot calmer than Ubud, we were told Sidemen is like Ubud 20 years ago, with few tourists even in August.

The Astana Swaha Villa was the highlight of our two weeks in Bali. It is located high in the mountains on the outskirts of Sidemen. The hotel has only three rooms arranged in the style of a traditional Balinese family compound. You have lots of serenity and privacy due to the intimate size of this boutique hotel. The outlook is stunning, serene and mesmerising and can be admired from your beautiful room, the gorgeous pool, your breakfast pagoda or the daybeds in the guest pavillion. The pool is just beautiful and the room was really comfortable and spacious. There are views to the sacred Mt Agung from your balcony. The staff here were just so lovely, Ayu, Komang, Ketut and Wayan are the most beautiful people. They looked after us with great warmth and care and will go out of their way to help with any request. Ayu prepares authentic and delicious Balinese food bursting with freshness from the the local uplands produce. Komang was a wonderful treking guide. The air is clean and fresh and the nights a little cooler for sleeping. We slept like babies here. If you want an uplifting and authentic Balinese experience away from the crowds, I could not recommend this place highly enough.

We loved Sidemen so much we stayed an extra night and booked into Samanvaya not knowing much about it. We were so glad we did. It is truly amazing. There has been so much though put into the resort and the attention to detail is incredible. The rooms are beautiful. We kept the main doors open all night and used the mosquito net, the bed is very comfortable and we had the best nights sleep. There is a beautiful pool with a terrific view over the rice fields, and a cold-water whirlpool. There's also a hot-water spa located down towards the restaurant which was great to sit in and drink wine after dinner. It gets a little chilly in Sidemen compared to other parts of Bali so a hot spa was super nice. The staff were wonderful especially Dia and Leah who made our stay just that extra bit special! we have booked two nights for around 4,8 Mio. IDR including breakfast, but it was two weeks after the hotel just opened, so maybe cheaper then in some weeks. But for this a normal/good value. Everybody of the staff was so friendly. The room was really clean, AC in good position and everything there. Only thing: would be great to have two different pillows to choose between higher or lower head position. Now both had been the same. The pool is on two floors separated and has sun beds and even bigger beds and is just amazing . Everybody is interested for feedback. When the staff heard that it was our wedding anniversary they even decorated our bed and we got an anniversary cake from the restaurant. We loved the daily coffee time where we received coffee and some snacks for free (included in our package). All the food is really delicious, although for western the portions of the main could be bigger. So you need 2-3 dishes to be full. Would love to come back!!!!

Absolutely the best place we stayed during our holiday. Nice modern and clean villas with comfortable beds and nice deck / veranda overlooking beautiful rice terraces. Pool was fantastic to cool off. Well located to other restaurants - the food we are here was good too. Lovely staff, everyone was so friendly. Also helped us organise transport / sunrise trip up Mt Batur. Literally no complaints if you want somewhere quite and peaceful to do some relaxing.
