a homey guest house”

100% recommend! - great location, near hida folk village - comfy beds, i came winter time and they have the bed heater, dorm beds are actually large singles, the ceiling height if you're at the bottom bunk is high so you don't feel cramped. there's enough space for your things. and lots of privacy as there are thick bed curtains and room dividers in some areas. just wishing for a second pillow if possible hehe. the bed also has a light and shelves so very practical for your small things, there's a clothes rack for jackets and towels. - the heating in the room is good. the eating area has a fire place! which was so cool to look at and really warmed up the room. the shower room also has a heater. the only cold areas were the hallways and toilet room (heater was broken i think) but not really a problem, just move fast haha - place is clean! lots of information. they can give you a map of nearby restaurants - there's a morning shuttle to the train station which was SUPER helpful as the local bus only arrives at around 9am onwards. the bus station to most tourist areas is also beside the train station so whether you use train/bus, the shuttle is useful - takayama is a good base for a lot of places. i went to shirakawago (west), hida (north), and hirayu (east). south would also be gero. - kitchen is fully equipped so you can cook. they have free water and coffee if you like. someone was also cooking rice but i dont know if that one was for everyone. - staff was super nice! :) my bag broke and they lent me a sewing kit to fix it. i also came in super late, around 10pm+ but i called ahead asking if that was ok and they said it was. they left a note/instructions for me in the lobby - they have coin laundry so no need to bring so many clothes. shower has the basic amenities (soap, shampoo, and conditioner) - there's wifi too i love this place! thank you for the great stay! more power to you guys :)

Very pleasant and peaceful stay”

Local owners are very kind and calm. The whole place has a peaceful atmosphere. A fully equipped kitchen very spacious and one of the most comfortable beds I slept in Japan. A big plus was that they offer free transfer to the station. Nice views and beautiful wooden house. Located away from the main center, but for me that’s an advantage rather than a disadvantage. Free drinks and books.

Clean and private for first-time hostel stay”

I was hesitant to book a hostel as I prefer to have my own space and privacy, but I ended up booking this last minute to go to the spring festival. That being said, this was the best possible outcome. The place was super clean, curtains around every bunk, and super private showers with an enclosed space to do your skincare and change. The other patrons were very quiet and many of them seemed to be Japanese, which I think helped make this place especially clean. There’s a free shuttle service early in the morning from the hostel to the station, so definitely take advantage if you’re heading downtown to explore. The hostel is a long uphill walk from the downtown area though, and is in a rural part of town. When walking there at night alone, it was a little spooky. But I know Japan is supposed to be super safe. And in the end, everything was okay 😅

Friendly Guesthouse in Takayama”

I love stayed at Sakura Guesthouse, feeling like at home and feeling safe. They prepare a private locker to store your valuables. The location is very near to some beautiful spot like Hida Folk Village (just 7 - 9 minutes walk). They provide shuttle bus to Takayama Station at 07.15; 08:00 and 09:00 AM. It help us much. The staff is friendly and very helpful

Its hard to say about location as its a bit near 2km from station and center but they provided shuttle bus (3times in the morning so its ok for traveler as we will go out anyway) Staffs are very nice. Place is nice and clean, its very well organize. The kitchen area is big. Price is reasonable.
