A share of the Magic of Fez”

          Location, management

the hotel is very well located inside the medina, which is good in the sense of its authenticity but it makes it slighly hard to access when getting there for the first time. in any case the riad is well known by people and you will be easily conducted from the babou jeloud if you are able to communicate with locals (french/arab). mistrust guides that will spontaneously come to talk to you. another option is to hire a cab from the riad. they can come pick you up at the airport for around 15€ or to the train station (around). for the latter, the prices is significantly higher than a "petit taxi" although you may enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that there will be someone waiting for you in the train station that will take you "safely" to the riad. on top of that, waiting for a taxi in the train station takes time taking into account that fez is a big city and there are lots of local travelers seeking for a taxi at the train station. in terms of the ownership of the hotel, it is very well managed and i can assure you that the owner will try his best for you to enjoy the hotel and get the most out of the city. the owner is a long-term player and is full aware of the importance of building a good reputation for his hotel. i stayed only a couple of days in fez but looking around you can feel that most of the merchants and other establishments are into making a fast profit out of the traveler. this is not the feeling you will get in this riad: there was a problem with the running water the day i arrived (totally out of the control of the owner obviously), and to compensate that i could not get a shower that night the owner gave me a free upgrade and a free dinner!! in therms of the hotel itself, i found it magical. beautiful, authentic, very clean...staying there was definitively a good share of the whole experience and magic of staying at fez... one little problem, no wi-fi in the room!! only in the patio downstairs.. i will come back for sure if i can!

OK after a bad initial shock.”

excellent location in medina, spacious room, big bathroom

We arrived at the Riad Al Akhawaine at night and were very disappointed to be told that our room (that we had guaranteed with our credit card) was unavailable as the previous guest was sick and couldn’t check out. We’d been told exactly the same story when we checked into our previous riad in Marrakesh! So we were sceptical and asked if we could briefly meet the sick person, but were told this wasn’t possible. We protested about the situation and the manager said we could have our money back and leave and find our own accommodation; that would be fine with him, he added. But as it was night time and we didn’t know Fez, that wasn’t really an option for us. We accepted the offer to stay that night in another riad just outside the medina and return the following day. How it could be certain that the sick person would be well enough to leave tomorrow wasn’t explained. To be fair, the other riad was very good, and after we returned to Riad Al Akhawaine the following day, the remainder of our stay was OK also. We may have been upgraded as our room was very spacious with the luxury of a big bath. Riad Al Akhawaine is in a great location in the medina, just inside the Blue Gate, easy to find, and with many good cafes all around. The cleaning and kitchen staff are very nice and friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, our opinion remains coloured by the nasty experience on our arrival. We don’t believe the “sick person” story; we think double-booking was more likely. Not to have a “guaranteed” booking honoured is a fundamental failure and for this reason we would not stay there again or recommend Riad Al Akhawaine to others.

Excellent Location, Beautiful Room and TerraceView”

location. location. location, in heart of medina with quiteness.

it was an excellent find, this riad, and was not dissapointed at all with the location. food and markets were on our doorstep. yet the riad was accessed through a side road which meant it was very quiet too, which is a bonus! breakfast was great and it was brought to you right from the top of the ryad to the groundfloor, this was service! and it was a big breakfast too to set you up for your day. we were taken to a hammam, local one too when asked where a suitable one was. this was good and definitely advisable. would say to ensure you do notify the person of any back injuries before any massage is done, as for a week my back was giving me trouble after the hammam massage, this was totally my own fault. the staff at the riad especially mohammed and hakima was great.

Beautiful design, delicious breakfast, attentive staff

We really enjoyed our stay at this Riad!! I stayed with my parents and our experience couldn't have been better. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful. They helped us a lot with maps and sightseeing which was wonderful. The breakfast consisted of three different types of bread, with various spreads, quality honey, butter, cream cheese, alongside fresh yoghurt, fruit, mint tea, coffee and tea. The design of the hotel was traditional Moroccan style and our rooms were clean, spacious and luxurious!! We really liked the rooftop too, which had fantastic views of Fez especially during sunset.

Good accomodation option in the medina”

Location, room size, proximity to market and eating places

This riad was very pleasant, and very quiet at night. The riad is well located in the medina and close to markets and eating places. Walking in the medina is very easy and pleasant, and motorised transport is available not too far away. Our room was very large and decorated in traditional style. The stair risers are a bit uneven, which requires care negotiating the stairs. But we were helped with our luggage, which made it a bit easier to handle the stairs on arrival and departure. The staff and family running the riad were welcoming and attended to all our requests.

          position, decor, staff help

The position is good and the Riad staff very helpful. The building is approx 250 years old but has only been a hotel for 4 years. The rooms are huge and beautifully decorated. Breakfast is traditional Moroccan and is "continental" style. Rooms are air conditioned which is very much appreciated in the summer.

          quet

his Riad is just in the right place ,just inside the Medina & is close to the Bab Boujloud (The blue gate )& restaurants. The staff are all very helpful and as I emailed in advance a Taxi was waiting for me at Fez airport at midnight. (20 minutes and 150 dirham). The rooms ar all quite large and very clean , the only thing they could do with sprung mattresses on beds . Though that said I did sleep very well .It's very quiet as is just off the main lane through the Medina . Breakfast was OK though after a few days it did get a bit boring as the same every day .(Orange juice & coffee are always fresh ) I would stay there again and it's great value for money ,& would recommend it to singles couples and families

Free wifi =) nice rooms and close proximity to Blue gate

We were given a room on the ground floor next to public lounge but were happy that it was generally peaceful & quiet at night time despite that. Riad has great location, near blue gate entrance, lovely decor and clean. Staff provides good service and speaks good English. Free wifi provided =)

          book another riad ”

difficult to find, rooms not particular nice, staff not trust worthy

we stayed at the riad 2 nights and we not satisfied. the bedroom was fine but the bathroom was horrible - felt like a basement with horrible lightening. the roof top terrace is nice but could be arranged much better, with nicer furniture and more space to the guests. the manager was very friendly when we arrived, telling us about how to be careful about trusting people in fes. it turned out that the manager wasn't trust worthy. he recommend us a local restaurant where he could get us in. it turned out to be a tourist trap to where he sent all the guests of the riad. so basically, do not trust him. parking - you must park outside the medina. parking is very difficult to find.

          nice riad in Fes medina”

          location, style

we spent 1 days in this riad, which is located in medina, near bab boujloud. We were upgraded to a suite room, which made our stay very nice, , thanks to a large room, large bathroom and a private terrace(without view on exterior), although we had to leave quite early on the checkout day. Note the kindness of the riad owners, which were giving many advices, especially not to wander a lot at night in streets of medina.

Room OK, nice roof top terrace, poor staff and difficult to find

VERY difficult to find the riad. Located inside the medina with no signs. You must park outside the medina - difficult to find good parking. The staff was friendly upon arrival but turned out not to be reliable. The room was OK but we would not go there again. Many other nicer riads is found in Fes.
