Where to stay in Wakayama Prefecture
Wakayama Prefecture hotels & accommodations
I booked this hotel on the same day I stayed there. It is about a 5-minute walk from Wakayama Station, which made it super convenient to day trip all around the prefecture. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast (although we did not partake), and gives free ramen to guests between 9 and 11 pm. The spa was the absolute best! It is open all night, so whatever time you g...
Rooms are well equipped n spacious Japanese standards. The decor is slightly dated with a digital alarm clock from the late 90s by your bed and no iPhone pods. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. If you are too tired, the shopping centre under the hotel has a western bistro, Japanese restaurant and Chinese restaurant (which I had not tried any since there ...
We rent a car from Osaka so location is not a problem for us, not sure how public transportation should work out. The stay has been prefect , we had the room with private onsen in room , the bathroom is nicely designed as well. Since our room got prefect view towards the beach, we didn’t head to the public onsen on top but guess the view should be unbreakable too. Ju...
Location is not difficult to reach, route 42 and 121 bus from Wakayama city. Free coupon for nice hot spring nearby. Staff is helpful with English speaking. Room is large and tidy, with balcony for nice seaview. Few choices of Resturants inside hotel, and more choices outside. Nearby fish market and fruit market with Tuna cutting show.
The Wakayama Hotel Granvia is a nice hotel. The rooms are upscale "business" hotel style, in Japanese terms, meaning they are not 5-star but more than adequate for the business traveller. One can reserved through discount services, making it an excellent value, and the staff have been especially helpful and friendly, and remembered me from my prior stay. We did commun...
I supposed to get kisyu around 6 for the included buffet dinner. However I underestimate the time I need to get from Kyoto to Kisyu and I get to Kisyu around 10 after 4 hours traveling time. And kisyu staff still offer dinner to us and not cost us. The room is the traditional Japanese design and we can enjoy the sea view. If you planned to travel in Wakayama and it ...
It was a wonderful stay. Our room was clean and spacious. Since the hotel locates next to the beach, you can have a beautiful view of ocean in every room. Bus stop is just at the front door of the hotel, it's convenient for us to travel. Staff are friendly and attentive. Although they were not fluent in speaking English, we highly appreciate their sincere and polite ...
The hotel is there I guess at least 20-30 years so the facility is a bit old-fashion. Staff overall can speak English. I accidentally booked a room for two while I am single. Since it was hard to refund, they decide to give me a better room instead and I am fine with that (My mistake anyway). The room was like 80m sq large for myself. I was totally surprised. Come to t...
The price for one night is not high but the hotel is perfect. Within a few minutes walk from Wakayama JR station. The room is huge compared to normal Japanese hotel. Breakfast is even included in the room rate. It is a buffet style with a variety of food to be chosen. All staff we met are polite and nice. I would definitely recommend this to any travellers looking for ...
Absolutely loved this hotel. It is right opposite a beautiful beach with restaurants within walking distance. If you arrive outside of the free hotel shuttle bus, get the Meiko Bus from bay 2 to Hashiriyu bus stop. It is stop number S-16 and costs ¥400. It virtually stops right outside the hotel. Be prepared for a steep climb up the driveway though. We had room ...
We originally booked another hotel but forced to change booking to this hotel finally. This hotel is fantastic of most of the aspect~~ - the staff there were super friendly and helpful - worth of money, as our stay included both breakfast and dinner( buffet breakfast, one buffet dinner and one dinner in our room), comprehensive choice of food and very satisfied traditi...
It was a nice experience to have a Tempel stay. The monks are very nice and friendly. To have the full experience i would recommend to book the stay with dinner and breakfast. Even though the food (mostly tofu) is not our preferred choice it is nice to have dinner in that atmosphere. You need to be aware that the room only have a kind of mattress (futon) on the floor. ...
This was a great experience. I can't remember her name, but the main woman helping us get checked in and oriented was super friendly and helpful and spoke English well. The temple itself is nice and has a beautiful garden and grounds. The shared bathrooms and sinks, and the single-person shower room were all very clean. I can't speak to the hot bath as a I have a large...
Hotel is good for family, kid and elderly to go with. many facility for kids and very friendly use for disable people. The Dinner buffet is fantastic delicious. especially the sushi, sashimi and beef. This is the best hotel dinner i have had before from now on. If directly provide car rental services in hotel, it might be great..... (i'm not sure do thay hv) I ...
A few things one should know before going to Kada. The hotel will pick you up from the Kada Train Station which is at the end of the train line. Do not confuse this with the Wakayama or Wakayama Shi stations. The town of Kada is a small fishing port. I assume it gets busy with tourists in the summer but when we went in late October, the town was very quiet. As in, virt...
I chosen this hotel mainly because it is close to Wakayama Adventure World, around 15 mins drive from hotel to Adventure World. Each room has a large balcony, the size of the room is spacious enough, and the room is clean, staff is nice.
They served vegeterian cuisine for dinner and breakfast with the full set and the taste is very nice. You cannot said hungry because it's too much dishes. Beautiful decorated dish and very delicious, especially "Tofu". Dining and breakfast are served in the guest room as schedule time. After come back from sightseeing, you can join some activities in the temple such as...
Its location was the primary reason I chose this hotel - the main train station (which goes to the airport via one simple transfer) is walking distance (save on bus fares!) and Wakayama Castle is still a walkable distance. If you get the top floors, the views you get of the city are pleasant. Our double room was spacious and there wasn't any smoking smell. The staff ca...
super nice staff, very caring and passionate. the location is a bit hard to find, but dont need to worry if you are doing self-drive. restaurant in the hotel is good but price is a bit high and small portion as well the Onsen is nice too and the view is gorgeous
I was a bit concerned when I saw no review in such well located hotel. later, I found it was bought over by a Chinese owner and changed the name of the hotel. the room is spacious and comfortable, however, it needs fixing of details over the years, probably for tour group as there are parking for tour bus, breakfast is good except the tables can be better arranged.
The hotel is quite the walking distance from the train station, approx 25-30mins walk, but you will be walking in a straight path so no worries of getting lost. Remember to buy your food at the mini mart by your right before starting your walk. The hotel is very near to wakayama castle and I was lucky to got a room that overlook Wakayama castle under the full moon duri...
Great experience from the start to the end. Food was great and staff was very helpful. After 10 days trying different Ryokans and hotels this one was the best of them all. Even though the price for the Luxury room with Private Onsen was a little steep, it was well worth it.
Less than a 10 minute walk from Kii-Katsuura station, this hotel was a very good deal. I particularly enjoyed arriving in my room for the first time to find it had a great view of the nearby beach, and was close enough to enjoy the sounds of the waves breaking on shore, which is something I find particularly soothing. Note that light sleepers not accustomed to those ...
The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was walking distance to the Castle and a short bus ride from the train station. It was clean, well equiped. Everything worked as we expected. I like stay in APA Hotel Wakayama and will come again.
About 5 minutes from the Wakayama Train Station, so if you are going to Kyoto, it's super convenient. The hotel is older and it shows. But the hotel room was still fairly clean. They give you a pair of pajamas you can wear, but I didn't because they were quite thick. The bathroom is set up that you bathe right on the floor OR there is a tub but the showerhead doesn...
Hotel Onsen is great, near to beach just 1 minutes walking distance, 3 minutes to Energy land and to food street. very friendly staffs with english speaking. delicious breakfast . big japanese room with foot spa.
The hotel was a bit old but the hotel upgraded us to a big family room, so that was very nice. Young staff speak English and were very helpful. 5 Stars for the Staff. How i like the service with an Onsen hotel is they come out to the front door to welcome you and already knowing who you are when you are still in your car.
We stayed only one night but it was lovely. The room was basic (tatami mats and a table, and futon beds they set up and pack away for you) but lovely. The dinner was magnificent - all vegetarian but very beautiful and beautifully presented. If you stay, make sure you eat there. They had shared shower facilities in traditional Japanese onsen style so be prepared for tha...
1. the room is spacious n clean 2. there two onsen in the hotel: an outdoor and an indoor one (2pools). the view is gorgeous. u can bring japanese style clothings from the reception 3. various food choice in the breakfast/ dinner buffet 4. friendly staff (their english may not be fluent but willing to offer help. google translate is ur fd) 5. location is a bit far fro...
I stayed in Kancho Hot Spring Hotel for 6 nights on my own, which is very unusual. It’s quite challenging for the hotel, especially the catering staff, as I would surely get bored with the food and facilities. However, they didn’t disappoint me, instead they provided superb hospitality to me, a loner. The environment was quiet and accessible. I was taken care well wi...
Cheap places to stay in Wakayama Prefecture
My last stop on my Kumano Kodōu pilgrimage adventure, and I immediately felt welcomed by Robert and our many interesting conversations. He’s so knowledgeable about Japan and the hostel is comfy and clean, a great base for exploring Wakayama and the Kumano area. Thanks for the great stay!
+Guesthouse is near Kii Tanabe station so perfect if you need to catch the bus in the early morning. Near a grocery store. I had the room by myself. The Japanese style room was clean and has ample room. Friendly lady who runs the place although I was unable to stay for a chat. Shared toilet and bath are clean - You have to take a steep flight of stairs since the ro...
The stay was very good. There are actually two guesthouses named Byddah that are owned by Koji. One in Wakayama which is a very old but charming Japanese house. There are great kitchen facilities to vook and keep food for yourself. All of the three rooms are tatami and futon. When I was there couples were seperated by sex but if you asked I'm sure you could have privac...
Great service I had experience ever and the guess from Japan is welcoming me. Owner might pick you when you coming to Kushimoto-cho. Many information is provided by the the Owner - Gou. His English is good, easy to understand!
I do like this guesthouse,it is comfortable and clean, you even can cook at that kicthen. The host can speak good english and helped me a lot,a very nice host.If I could be in shirahama agagin,I would like to stay here again.
The guest house is so comfortable. You will be surprised by the kindness of the owner, treated like his own family. I was the only guest that time. Probably the only hostel's owner who prepared a meal after check out for my next trip! :D Free using bycycle, towels, bath amenities . Near with bus shelter and less than 15 minutes to Shirahama station. Recommended stay i...
First Cabin is a great place to stay on a budget. I would definitely recommend spending the extra money to get the First Class or Business or whatever the top rank is - almost feels like you actually have a room, rather than just a bed. First Cabin is a funny place - lots of amenities, a very nice bathroom area, almost like you're actually at a spa. But in the cabin i...
I was the only guest staying at that night. The host owns a cafe outside the guesthouse. He has two puppies which makes the guesthouse a bit smelly. The guesthouse is old fashion, it's the traditional japanese guesthouse. Very close to the rail station, just 2 mins walk, and also close to the beach if you like seeing sunset.
If you're staying in Wakayama, stay here. It is a hostel with dorm rooms, but it was immaculately clean, quiet and a great night's sleep. The hosts are gracious and more than willing to help in any way they can. The rough design of the hostel is intentional and the reception area is full of stylish curiosities. There are ambitious designs for shared workspace as we...
Need psychological preparation of the place, amenities, and facilities before hand, needs actual image of the property, no delusion from the websites, such as the capsule style of "room", not "bunk beds" , no hands towels after washings! No personal lockers for personal things, such as sneakers, handbags, etc. Or at least a big locker's room for storage if necessary!...
My first stop on the Kumano Kodōu with a lovely host and clean, cozy room. Couldn’t ask for more!
Very friendly welcome; spotless clean traditional rooms; very nice socializing area; well-equipped kitchen; three onsen using super-healthy, natural hot spring water (one is outside, two inside). The loop trails start and end right by the inn. Lots of information available. Was one of our best-value accommodations on our entire Japan trip.
Just so-so for a guesthouse. A nice experience for foreigners as it is an old ryokan, traditional japanese house. But the building and facilities are old. The aircon is probably old as it made terrible sounds. The wall are thin. Only one toilet and one bath for 12 guests. Our room, which is closest to the road, is probably the worst among all rooms. If you could choose...
Tatami room with aircon is great. Host is awesome, although he doesn't speak much English but he tried his very best to answer any question. There is only one bath room and two toilets in the hostel, it's not a problem because I don't see anyone queue for their turn, most people spent their time at the beach.
It is an unexpected hotel. We first imagined as an ordinary hotel as it was graded only 1 star. The room is designed as the Japanese style, clean, comfortable and quite spacious. All rooms are non-smoking and feel free from cigarette smell. The owner is kind and can communicate in English. All facilities are provided including kitchen area. Car park is free in front of...
Owner speaks enough English. He was helpful and thoughtful to prepare extra duvet in event I needed it. My favourite green tea is available for free! Public bus 25, 42 from JR Wakayama Station brings you near, if walking isn’t preferred.
I stayed here after hiking a portion of the Kumano Kodo. It's next to the train station, which can take you back to Osaka. It's also near bus lines which go to Nachi and Shingu. The facility had the feel of staying in someone's house. There is an onsen on-site. I don't recall of there was a common room. The staff were helpful in giving me ideas on how to spend a lazy d...

When guests arrive at the property, the staff will explain to guests about Koyasan in details, like places to see, eat, or things to do. Staffs are super nice and welcoming to guests. The property also offers awesome breakfast for a very low price. For solo travelers, I would highly them to stay here because the japanese host speaks English well and always willing to e...
Used as a base for start to Kumano Kodo, room was comfortable. Owner was very helpful with information about the Kumano Kodo and local restaurants. Unfortunately a typhoon got in the way of dinner - nothing was open but there was a convenience store a short walk away. Met the owner again a couple of days later on the trail as he was guiding some other tourists near Hon...
All staffs are extremely friendly and helpful. Clean. Good sea view in canteen. We enjoy watching firework at dinner time in hotel. Some recommendation: no refrigerator, just one hair dryer in share bath room but not in room. Noted we share toilet but an individual washing sink would be better in each room. My room is too small for 3 beds.
About 5 minutes from the Wakayama Train Station, so if you are going to Kyoto, it's super convenient. The hotel is older and it shows. But the hotel room was still fairly clean. We had a wonderful time staying at this serviced apartment. The owner is very friendly and nice. He took time to explain to us different places of interest in Shirahama. On the day we were to go to Wakayama city, he very kindly offered to take us to the train station. There are also lots of restaurants nearby and a free foot onsen.

The hotel stands in a good position: few minutes far from the Wakayamashi station, in a quiet area, with a combini just on the way from the station. The Wakayama castle was also visible from my room and it takes about a 10-minutes walk to get there. The room was fine, even though rather small, and not completely soundproof, hence it would be most suitable for a short...
i stayed here for two nights after my Kumano Kodo hiking. the owner was very welcoming and nice even though my check-in was delayed. the homely house provides comfortable and clean stay experience. the attractions are all within walking distance. i definitely would recommend for those who are looking for budget stay.
We stayed for two nights at Ichie. Everything was perfect and Mayumi made sure that we felt welcomed inside her home. She even provides breakfast which include her homemade chiffon cakes. It is an easy walk from Tanabe Train Station and it is also really close to the beach. One of our favourite places during our trip to Japan.
It is an old Ryokan, but it is clean and you have your own toilet and ofuro. The staff, which is an old couple, do not speak english but were very nice and helped me find the bus schedule for next day. The breakfast was simply delicious.

Two nights trip. Hotel get wrong information. We need to stay at two different rooms for two nights. Need to change room, inconvenience! No compensation.
The room we have got located on the top floor. We can see great sea view from the balcony and the room size is big enough. The room price is reasonable but the supper buffet is a bit expensive. Hope we can enjoy some discount if we can book it through Agoda.
Slightly far but convenient as you can arrange for a free shuttle pick up service from Kii-Katsuura station via the hotel. Staff were helpful and hotel is right in front of the whale museum if you are planning to visit. Beautiful facilities and we stayed in the tatami room, which staff helped us set up the bed whilst we were out for dinner! Gorgeous view as the room ...
The hotel is spacious and neat. Facilities well. However hard to communicate with the staff in English. Unable to have a dinner without reservation. They have spent hour an hour to think what I was talking about and keep saying there were no ...
better self drive, google map GPS can guide you to 心結directly, Yoko san provides many useful info, room is very big can stay 8 people but we have only 2, kitchen is well equipped, although old Japanese style house, clean and tidy, highly recommended
