Wakayama Prefecture hotels & places to stay

I booked this hotel on the same day I stayed there. It is about a 5-minute walk from Wakayama Station, which made it super convenient to day trip all around the prefecture. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast (although we did not partake), and gives free ramen to guests between 9 and 11 pm. The spa was the absolute best! It is open all night, so whatever time you get "home", you can have a wonderful soak before bed. I will definitely stay there again, and highly recommend it for anyone staying in the Wakayama area.

Rooms are well equipped n spacious Japanese standards. The decor is slightly dated with a digital alarm clock from the late 90s by your bed and no iPhone pods. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. If you are too tired, the shopping centre under the hotel has a western bistro, Japanese restaurant and Chinese restaurant (which I had not tried any since there are local restaurants just around the corner). However, we did pop into the Family Mart for snacks and drinks since the hotel had environmentally friendly policy of not providing guests with bottled water. The hotel is about a 25 min walk from Wakayama Train Station but buses frequent a stop (in front of the castle) just opposite. It's a perfect location for visiting the Wakayama Castle. If you are planning to take any trains from Wakayama City. This hotel is conveniently located 10 min walk away from there. For example, we took the Mendetai Train (pretty sea bream train) to the quiet seaside town, Kada.

We rent a car from Osaka so location is not a problem for us, not sure how public transportation should work out. The stay has been prefect , we had the room with private onsen in room , the bathroom is nicely designed as well. Since our room got prefect view towards the beach, we didn’t head to the public onsen on top but guess the view should be unbreakable too. Just the naming of the room in agoda and the hotel is different . Agoda names it as “sea view room with balcony” but for the hotel, they don’t have room with balcony, they name that room as “ocean view premium room with hot spring bath” not sure if it is because of the translation problem or not . The staff understood the problem and assisted us with the room change swiftly. It would be grateful if Agoda can rectify the discrepancy to avoid possible confusion

The Wakayama Hotel Granvia is a nice hotel. The rooms are upscale "business" hotel style, in Japanese terms, meaning they are not 5-star but more than adequate for the business traveller. One can reserved through discount services, making it an excellent value, and the staff have been especially helpful and friendly, and remembered me from my prior stay. We did communicate in Japanese, but their courteous and professional demeanor suggests they are probably well-trained to interact with guests in English too. I gave the facilities a 4 instead of a 5 because their work station was not set up to make digital pdf's from my documents, only hard copy prints. The lobby is surprisingly sparse for such a large space, but there are numerous coffee shops nearby, either the one just off the lobby or next door accessible by connecting door to the departments store complex. It is located about as close as you're going to get to the train station without being on top of it.

I supposed to get kisyu around 6 for the included buffet dinner. However I underestimate the time I need to get from Kyoto to Kisyu and I get to Kisyu around 10 after 4 hours traveling time. And kisyu staff still offer dinner to us and not cost us. The room is the traditional Japanese design and we can enjoy the sea view. If you planned to travel in Wakayama and it is a very good choice. Relaxing and enjoyable place. It is not suggested If you are travel in Kyoto and 大阪

It was a wonderful stay. Our room was clean and spacious. Since the hotel locates next to the beach, you can have a beautiful view of ocean in every room. Bus stop is just at the front door of the hotel, it's convenient for us to travel. Staff are friendly and attentive. Although they were not fluent in speaking English, we highly appreciate their sincere and polite attitude. Meals are good! Highly recommended this hotel to everyone who wants to stay at Wakayama.

The hotel is there I guess at least 20-30 years so the facility is a bit old-fashion. Staff overall can speak English. I accidentally booked a room for two while I am single. Since it was hard to refund, they decide to give me a better room instead and I am fine with that (My mistake anyway). The room was like 80m sq large for myself. I was totally surprised. Come to think about it can fit two people, is a reasonable price. Ocean view was excellent. Nothing more that you can ask for. And since I like Onsen very much, the hotel has its very own large Onsens including the outdoor one which also has ocean view. I can't count how much time I spent on there and it is open 24/7. I guess this is the most famous part of the hotel. Other than that, hotel was a bit far to the main street, it takes about at least 20 mins walk to there or you can wait the bus which comes every 30 mins. Just one additional information that on this very hotel, there is a small onsen just right downhill by the hotel. For 300yen, you can enjoy the onsen literally next to the ocean. And that was one of the highlights in this town. It was raining all the time during my stay, so no comment on the white beach. But I will come back one day definitely. Also, I got the very traditional Japanese meal for dinner. It was also unforgettable.

The price for one night is not high but the hotel is perfect. Within a few minutes walk from Wakayama JR station. The room is huge compared to normal Japanese hotel. Breakfast is even included in the room rate. It is a buffet style with a variety of food to be chosen. All staff we met are polite and nice. I would definitely recommend this to any travellers looking for hotel in Wakayama.

Absolutely loved this hotel. It is right opposite a beautiful beach with restaurants within walking distance. If you arrive outside of the free hotel shuttle bus, get the Meiko Bus from bay 2 to Hashiriyu bus stop. It is stop number S-16 and costs ¥400. It virtually stops right outside the hotel. Be prepared for a steep climb up the driveway though. We had room 515 which had a lovely view of the water and was on the same floor as the restaurant. The room was large and had all the amenities needed. We had booked a bed and breakfast package but in hindsight it might have been better to book a package with dinner as well. The first night we were a bit lost but soon found some good restaurants about a 10 minute walk away to the right as you come out of the hotel. To the left is Fisherman's Wharf. Just follow the road around until you find it. Lunch there consists of choosing the seafood that delights you and having it cooked on the spot. Very reasonable prices. The best thing of all is the hot baths in the hotel. They are on the 2nd floor and alternate daily between the two i.e. male and female switch each day so you get to experience both. This was our first experience of a public hot bath and we LOVED it. All included in the price of your hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an early train trip and they arranged a box breakfast for us. Wake up calls were spot on and taxis arranged. If you do need to take a taxi to the station it is under ¥2000. We paid ¥1780 I think. This hotel delivers the goods and is well worth staying at.

We originally booked another hotel but forced to change booking to this hotel finally. This hotel is fantastic of most of the aspect~~ - the staff there were super friendly and helpful - worth of money, as our stay included both breakfast and dinner( buffet breakfast, one buffet dinner and one dinner in our room), comprehensive choice of food and very satisfied traditional Japanese dinner set - hot spring was nice with beautiful sea view - ideal choice of stay if you will travel by car as lots of free parking space there - Room is spacious with sea view

It was a nice experience to have a Tempel stay. The monks are very nice and friendly. To have the full experience i would recommend to book the stay with dinner and breakfast. Even though the food (mostly tofu) is not our preferred choice it is nice to have dinner in that atmosphere. You need to be aware that the room only have a kind of mattress (futon) on the floor. The bath time is only at night from 5-9 pm. So it is not a 5 star hotel. But definitely worth it!

This was a great experience. I can't remember her name, but the main woman helping us get checked in and oriented was super friendly and helpful and spoke English well. The temple itself is nice and has a beautiful garden and grounds. The shared bathrooms and sinks, and the single-person shower room were all very clean. I can't speak to the hot bath as a I have a large tattoo so I didn't risk going in. I didn't ask whether it was ok to be honest, maybe they would have allowed it. My boyfriend did go in and enjoyed it a lot though. There were instructions for how to put on the yukata provided as well as all kinds of information about the area and the temple in the room. We did get the full dinner and breakfast. A lot of the dinner food was not our cup of tea - it was prepared well and served well, it was filling, and we were glad to have at least tried it, but just not for us! The breakfast was a little less "weird" by American standards and also very filling. Our room was nice and the futons were pretty comfy although we were apparently too tall for the blankets, so if you're 5'6 or taller you may want to see about having something extra to keep your feet warm or curl up for the night. The only reason I took a star off for facilities was because there was a light on all night as our room was near the sinks, and it easily shined through our room's sliding doors and was a problem for sleeping. I can understand people will need to find the sinks or bathrooms at night but maybe some kind of roll-up curtain or other block for light in the room itself would have really helped. That being said, I think that issue was particular to the room we were in and we actually still managed to get a decent night of sleep anyway somehow. The service held by the monks in the morning was really interesting to watch, and the head monk gave a short explanation of the area and the temple in both Japanese and English afterwards. Hotel is good for family, kid and elderly to go with. many facility for kids and very friendly use for disable people. The Dinner buffet is fantastic delicious. especially the sushi, sashimi and beef. This is the best hotel dinner i have had before from now on. If directly provide car rental services in hotel, it might be great..... (i'm not sure do thay hv) I don't have any complain , only they make a little mistake of my room booking........

A few things one should know before going to Kada. The hotel will pick you up from the Kada Train Station which is at the end of the train line. Do not confuse this with the Wakayama or Wakayama Shi stations. The town of Kada is a small fishing port. I assume it gets busy with tourists in the summer but when we went in late October, the town was very quiet. As in, virtually no restaurants open. Unless you have booked the half board with the hotel you are pretty much on your own. We ended up taking the train up 4 stations a finding a convenience store that had prepackaged meals and taking them back. We had a 3 person Japanese ocean view room which was beautiful. Open the blinds and the ocean is right there. The open air on sen is also ocean front and a great spot to relax. The Japanese rooms look cool but after sitting on the floor and getting up and down, it does wear on the bones a bit. Overall a great place to take a break.

They served vegeterian cuisine for dinner and breakfast with the full set and the taste is very nice. You cannot said hungry because it's too much dishes. Beautiful decorated dish and very delicious, especially "Tofu". Dining and breakfast are served in the guest room as schedule time. After come back from sightseeing, you can join some activities in the temple such as meditation practice by monk with japanese style. There are indoor public bath in the building area, and the restroom near to the guestroom on every floor. Nice and clean!! All guest rooms are able to connect with the beautiful garden view from the balcony. The highlight it's a "Night tour" that highly recommened for the guest who interesting on the okunoin history and Kobo daishi's story. The monk can support you for night touring with tour package. He will explain you an information for the main point that we should know the story, It's so worth because most of tourist will walk around at day time. Morning activities are also good to join before breakfast serve in the guestroom. Staffs(monk) are helpful and fully services for the guest even carry your all luggages both check-in and check-out time. You can go to anywhere by walking, it's not too far for the highlight place. -2 mins from eko-in temple to Okunoin -10mins to Kongobu-ji temple If you have no time, you can plan for day trip and leave early morning in case you stay at wakayama, osaka or kyoto.

Its location was the primary reason I chose this hotel - the main train station (which goes to the airport via one simple transfer) is walking distance (save on bus fares!) and Wakayama Castle is still a walkable distance. If you get the top floors, the views you get of the city are pleasant. Our double room was spacious and there wasn't any smoking smell. The staff can speak English and will help you with bus options to areas you plan to visit. Kimiidera Temple, Kishu Toshogu Shrine, and Wakayama Marina City are all accessible via one-ride bus from the train station, which is walkable from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel. Plus, breakfast is always included!

The hotel is quite the walking distance from the train station, approx 25-30mins walk, but you will be walking in a straight path so no worries of getting lost. Remember to buy your food at the mini mart by your right before starting your walk. The hotel is very near to wakayama castle and I was lucky to got a room that overlook Wakayama castle under the full moon during a full moon day and that is a plus.

Less than a 10 minute walk from Kii-Katsuura station, this hotel was a very good deal. I particularly enjoyed arriving in my room for the first time to find it had a great view of the nearby beach, and was close enough to enjoy the sounds of the waves breaking on shore, which is something I find particularly soothing. Note that light sleepers not accustomed to those sounds may find it difficult to sleep under those conditions, so bear that in mind. The room was big, came with a convenient toilet and small sink, the shared bathing facilities clean, and thankfully the onsen on the 2nd floor was at a temperature I could deal with. There was also an open air one accessible through a side door. I did not eat at the hotel, so cannot comment on the food. Note that most of the restaurants in the area are a bit of a walk.

About 5 minutes from the Wakayama Train Station, so if you are going to Kyoto, it's super convenient. The hotel is older and it shows. But the hotel room was still fairly clean. They give you a pair of pajamas you can wear, but I didn't because they were quite thick. The bathroom is set up that you bathe right on the floor OR there is a tub but the showerhead doesn't point in that direction. So either get the floor wet, or try to hold the showerhead to bathe in the bathtub to keep everything dry. Front desk called me a taxi which was super nice. Breakfast had some fish and other Japanese looking things that I tried. It did feel a bit like stepping back into the 70s.

We stayed only one night but it was lovely. The room was basic (tatami mats and a table, and futon beds they set up and pack away for you) but lovely. The dinner was magnificent - all vegetarian but very beautiful and beautifully presented. If you stay, make sure you eat there. They had shared shower facilities in traditional Japanese onsen style so be prepared for that experience and read up on the etiquette! Word of warning - make sure you get the package with the meals included - we had some issues where we booked the 'Japanese Room with Dinner and Breakfast' but it didn't actually have dinner and breakfast included (this was in the fine print). They honoured our booking with food anyway though after some discussion. Not sure if this was an issue with the way it was listed on Agoda. We were also invited to observe a traditional Buddhist ceremony at 6am the next morning. It was a great privilege to be able to do this which we were grateful for.

1. the room is spacious n clean 2. there two onsen in the hotel: an outdoor and an indoor one (2pools). the view is gorgeous. u can bring japanese style clothings from the reception 3. various food choice in the breakfast/ dinner buffet 4. friendly staff (their english may not be fluent but willing to offer help. google translate is ur fd) 5. location is a bit far from the town. u needa check for bus schedules in conclusion, i believe u cannot find another hotel with same price! i will book it again next time when i visit shirahama!

I stayed in Kancho Hot Spring Hotel for 6 nights on my own, which is very unusual. It’s quite challenging for the hotel, especially the catering staff, as I would surely get bored with the food and facilities. However, they didn’t disappoint me, instead they provided superb hospitality to me, a loner. The environment was quiet and accessible. I was taken care well with the least disturbance. The staff were friendly and tried hard to communicate with me to make me feel at home. What impressed me most was the fact that they prepared different meals for me every day, lest I would be bored. I was touched when I saw my name on the dinner food list starting from the third day of my stay. They made dishes just for me every day! They even prepared a western breakfast with bread and jam and a best ever corn soup for me! I have to thank everyone at Kancho for giving me such a wonderful vacation during the worst time of my life. You did make a different! I highly recommend Kancho to you!
