We are a family of 4 with teenage children, and booked the two adjoining rooms on the second level of the cruise. We also booked the transfer to and from the Old Quarter in Hanoi. They gave a half hour window for pick up, and the driver messaged me at the beginning of the window to tell us the other gueats are delayed. It saved us standing in the heat. The car that came was comfortable, and that made the two hour plus drive good. The driver stopped at a pit stop about half way, and we got a chance to use the bathroom and buy some snacks. We arrived at the marina and checked in. We waited at the waiting room, and our luggage was brought outside our room doors. We then got on a small boat, and transferred to the Peony Cruise 1. (There's also Peony Cruise 2, so do check which one you are boarding.) We were greeted by staff on Peony Cruise with warm smiles, a cool watermelon juice, a wet towel to freshen up, and raining rose petals as we went up the stairs. Everyone was given our key cards at the dining room, after formal greetings by Thanh (he also goes by Tom). The rooms are very clean, and are nicely decorated. Understated elegance comes to mind. The entire room has large windows that let you take in the view. There's also a private balcony to every room, if you prefer to admire the view with the aroma of the lake. The cruise boat has 40 cabins so it is more intimate than larger boats. The dining room didn't get noisy, which is a big plus for us. We went for the 2-day 1-night cruise, and had lunch, dinner, breakfast and a brunch. There were a decent number of selections, and the staff are attentive to our every need. Special shout out to Tommy, who gave exceptional service and made our once-in-a-lifetime trip that much more memorable. We participated in the kayaking and the cave exploration excursions (both included in the price), and both were well arranged. Overall, we have nothing to complain about and only good things to say about our trip. If you are looking for a good cruise option in Ha Long Bay, look no further and book with Peony Cruise.

If you wanna splurge and be a bit spoiled definitely go for Peony Cruise they arranged everything for you, they picked me up at my hotel door, took us to the cruise with a restroom and shopping stop, their limousine is very comfy and they also arranged the transfer to Tam Coc which was absolutely comfortable and luxurious and they dropped me off meters from my accommodation. The whole experience is so seamless, never a line to check in, or check out, the staff knew who I was and where I was from without asking me, they were always interested to have a chat and we're so accommodating. Shout outs to Henry, Lya and Emma. If you take the 2 nights three day cruise, on the second day they organize a tour to a village in Cat Ba island and kayaking and swimming, do not miss this, this is your chance to see more of Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay because otherwise the actual boat with the rooms does not travel much, however the views from the boat are great, each room has a balcony and big windows so you always get the scenery views. Then on the 3 day( or last morning) there's a cave tour, I did not go but people recommend it, it's a quick trip to a beautiful cave apparently. I thought I was gonna be hungry and I was not, food servings are vast and it's good quality, with both western and vietnamese options. This cruise was definitely romantic, lots of couples and two or three groups, if you're celebrating a bday or anniversary, it's absolutely wonderful the way they celebrate it. The ship's were beautiful with delicious food and drink and wonderful staff, super organized and definitely worth your money. I LOVED IT and took it by myself.

Lovely small ship cruise so not overcrowded at all, check in at lot 34 with a welcome drink and wait for the tender to transfer from the dock to ship via border guards for some reason so it took about 35/40 minutes to board. Welcomed by all the staff and lunch was served promptly which was fantastic and delicious! Our bags were waiting at the cabin door, we were in 207 which was a deluxe with a balcony and well worth it! We noticed the sellers approaching the lower deck windows trying to sell things in their small boats. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable, there’s a kettle and tea/coffee. Kayaking is available after a short relax time, we opted not to follow up with a swim as the water isn’t the cleanest despite being in a UNESCO heritage site it’s quite sad how dirty and how much plastic there is floating by and gathering in random places. We had a cooking class for spring rolls and happy hour in the upper deck from 4.30-6.30 drinks are all around 250000 vnd and beer isn’t included for happy hour! More time to relax before dinner which was a set menu but if something wasn’t suitable they would be happy to accommodate any request for alternative food option which is good! There were activities on offer included but as we were only on the 1 night /2 day option we decided to stay and enjoy the peace of the boat. Early breakfast and a cave trip then brunch before disembark back to port. A seamless operation thanks to all staff who are excellent at their jobs and are a credit to Peony!
Worth it for the location”
The Peony Cruise boat was definitely one of the nicer looking boats in Halong Bay, although it was a shame not to see the sails up as shown in all of the photos - not that we came to admire the boat anyway. The location was obviously beautiful and we were pleasantly surprised with our room (deluxe double with balcony), which was spacious and clean. Although we did notice that we could hear the neighbouring room very loudly, and realised that there was a shelving unit pushed up against a loosely sealed adjoining door, so that was a little irrititating but not the end of the world. We were on our honeymoon so I think we generally tried to just enjoy ourselves and relax, however I can't hide the fact that the food was some of the worst I have ever eaten. It felt like such a wasted opportunity to be in a country with so much amazing local food, and for some reason everything was so westernised that it was just bad... I appreciate that it can be difficult to cook a large selection of foods for a number of people, but the whole menu was just odd (and I think it's worth pointing out that I am not at all a fussy eater). Even the pho at breakfast was bad, and we'd had amazing pho at our hotels every morning, where they were probably cooking for more people... The staff were really lovely and obviously just wanted to do a good job, but we both found it a little overbearing to be watched like prisoners on day release during meal times, just in case we were to get up and our chair needed to be pulled out from behind us. I know that they've been told to do this, but I think it would help to create a more relaxed atmosphere if the staff weren't so on edge... Should we decide to see Halong Bay again, I would definitely book with Peony Cruise, however we would probably bring a picnic with us and avoid the restaurant at all costs.

Wonderful way to finish our holiday in Vietnam. Our interconnecting family rooms with balconies were fabulous, so clean and roomy and the food was fabulous. As it was my parents anniversary and my birthday the staff had decorated our rooms so beautifully. At dinner we were also surprised with a wonderful cake each and performance/music for the special occasions which was so very very special. We had the most memorable time and Elvis, crew manager and David, food and beverage manager were amazing as were all the wonderful staff. Tai chi at 6am with Elvis with the wonderful backdrop of Halong Bay was also amazing. We didn't feel rushed at all with the itinerary and had plenty of time to soak up the amazing scenery on the top deck and our balconies. I would recommend the 2 night cruise though just because it was so great and it would be lovely to spend longer on a beautiful boat on beautiful Halong bay.
