Traditional Javanese home guest house”
I thoroughly enjoyed my 10-day stay at nDalem Gamelan Guest House. The room was comfortable, the grounds were beautiful, the location was perfect for exploring Yogya, the small staff was helpful, and the price was affordable. I eat Indonesian food and the staff fixed whatever I ordered for breakfast: nasi goreng, gudeg basah, bubur ayam, or just mixed fruit and traditional pastries. Meals were served at a small patio facing onto a garden area. The tasteful restoration and furnishings -- nothing was overdone -- gave a genuine sense of the traditional Javanese combination of elegance and modesty. There are many local Indonesian restaurants and food stalls within walking distance. Transportation (becak, taxi, bus) to tourist sites is available on the street. The train station is 10-minutes away, and the airport is a 30-minute taxi ride away. Beaches are only 24 kilometers to the south. I have already recommended this little gem of a guest house to friends. It marries character, comfort, and convenience in a small, four-room package.

Great Hotel with Character”
We brought our visiting in laws to the Ndalem Gamelan hotel when we took them to Jogja. Looking at the pictures we thought it would make the experience more unique and boy was it! The decorations have much more character than most hotels and the fact that it is a small place makes it feel very intimate it was almost like renting out a nice house for our family. The service was excellent and timely. We were brought tea and coffee in the afternoon as well as snacks sometimes. Breakfast was delicious every morning and the fresh fruit juice was fantastic! We were thoroughly pleased with our stay and with it's location inside the Kraton it is fairly close to many of the sites of Jogja and not far from the Mailioboro. A short becek ride will get you anywhere you need to go and they arranged a car for us on the two days that we needed one.

this is our second time back to ndalem gamelan, and as usual ibu Ibnu, the lady look after us very well. we got the family room so space for everyone. ndalem gamelan where you will experience stay with local Jogyakarta, when in the morning you will wake up by the rooster sound and the 'azan'from the mosque around the place. it is very traditional, very local and feel like home. we will back again next time we come to Jogya

Beautiful, calm, old-style tiny hotel, town-centre”
I loved it here. It's a tiny hotel -only about 4 rooms - in an old house on the same block as the Kraton (palace). Full of lovely antiques and there's a time-stopped-still, tranquil atmosphere about the place. There's a pretty verandah to sit on and drink tea/coffee (both of which where offered to me by the staff whenever I made an appearance, free of charge). I'm super-fussy about food - and the breakfasts here passed muster but weren't the greatest highlights of my stay. The only other thing that was less than excellent was the shower - which was absolutely fine but anyone expecting a state of the art power shower will be disappointed and I think if you want a hot shower (which I didn't) you have to wait for 20 mins for the water to heat up. Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. It felt more like being a house guest than a hotel guest. Also there are gamelan instruments (slenthem, gender, gambang, all in pelog, plus kendhang) for anyone who wants to play.

Homey. Value for Money”
I like the location of the hotel since it's inside kraton and old javanese house still preserved w/ all the musical instruments (gamelan). Maria and Ibu, the two ladies took really good care of us.. Ibu cooks very good indonesian dish for breakfast.. quite a walk though to malioboro st.

Lovely stay at this traditional Javanese Guesthouse – Ibu Ibnu was the star of our stay!”
This guesthouse/home stay is surrounded by high walls and not immediately noticeable from the street. It feels like you are entering a private home. When we arrived the welcome was super friendly and we were served drinks on the front terrace before led to the room at the back of the house through the garden. Our room had its own reception terrace/area where you could watch TV or have breakfast in the mornings. The room itself had 2 double beds, an ensuite shower/WC and A/C and a fan. Our private terrace also had a fan. All staff were very friendly but Ibu IBNU was the star of our stay. She really looked after us whether it was to source train or bus tickets for our onwards journey or preparing food parcels for the morning of our departure. Every evening she would ask us what we would like to eat for breakfast but we left it up to her, so one morning we’d get nasi goreng, then soto ayam etc. There was always a different freshly pressed fruit juice. If you wanted something else she would get it from the market first thing in the morning. That’s how we tasted our way through some culinary delights. If we end up in Yogya again, then this will definitely be out first address to go to. The Kraton and Alun-Alun (public greens surrounded by food stalls) are just a short walk away. Thank you to all the staff and especially Ibu IBNU for making this stay such a memorable one for us.

A hidden gem of traditional Jogja”
Gamelan was a beautiful bed & breakfast which was perhaps more beautiful than most of the attractions I visited around Jogja. The house itself is an example of traditional Joglo architecture and stepping into it makes one feel transported back in time. The rooms are kept in as good a condition as could possibly be expected of an older building but of course it won't have the spotless cleanliness of new construction. Then again that's part of its charm so you must take the good with the bad. The staff was extremely friendly and we chose to have the Indonesian breakfast which was simply delicious. It even included traditional gudeg - Jogja's iconic food - which was as good as if not better than the gudeg we found at the famous restaurants.

Old world charm”
We enjoyed our stay at the Ndalem. The staff were very warm and welcoming and the atmosphere provided a peaceful respite from busy Yogya. I love the tiles and the deep verandahs on this heritage building.

Exceptional”
The property is a renovated facility to provide modern amenity, such as en-suite toilet and shower room, room air condition and TV, but it reserves the traditional quality and ambience... with friendly, helpful and 'familial' services. Strategic location, in the city centre, within the keraton vicinity – close encounter to the traditional Javanese architecture, way of living, culinary and festivities.

Great location in old town of Yogyakarta ”
The room and bath had a little to be desired. Too many mosquitos and the smell of mothballs. The bathroom was a shower/toilet space and dated. The building itself is old colonial/sultan palace style. A fabulous place architecturally. The staff are helpful and very friendly and want to please. This is a great place to stay and the location and price can't be beat.

Beautiful historic home, friendly staff”
This old home offers beautiful, simple rooms within the old walled city, an easy walk from the alun-alun selatan, the Taman Sari, and the palace. On-site staff were helpful in arranging transportation. English is spoken.

Stay here if you get the chance!”
We found this spot just browsing Agoda, and I'm so glad we did. First of all, the woman who runs it is a saint. The free breakfast you get isn't the usual toast and fruit. She made us gado gado and it was better than the stall down the road, which isn't usually the case. She's also attentive to special diets and accommodated my vegan burden. Secondly, the room we had was great! The bed was very comfortable, the shower was always warm, and it was always stocked with bottles of water. The location of this spot is a bit more local than a hostel on Malioboro, so it was difficult for people to find at times, but you get a great experience walking around the neighborhood. This was our first visit to Jogya and it won't be our last. We'll definitely stay here again!

Wonderful place to stay”
We stayed there for 3 days. It was an old nobleman's house, with some antiques inside. The place was easy to find, and the house was wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff Ibu Ibnu was so friendly and helpful. The tea she served was so delicious, my son loves it so much. The meal she cooked for us were simple and delicious, we love mango and guava juices she served every morning. Fried rice, sayur kangkung, fried tempeh, fish and some more were yummy. Hot water was low pressure, but no problem at all. It was very comfortable stays in Jogja, and we are looking forward to back there someday. Thank you.

Excellent small guesthouse”
Centrally located, convenient to everything. Small number of rooms. Design of rooms and verandah area is pleasingly traditional. Staff is very friendly and takes good care of guests, including fixing whatever kind of Indonesian food you want for breakfast.
