Munduk hotels & places to stay

Wooooooow!!! Even better than it looks in pictures! Don’t judge the outside entrance at all. Vehicles are not allowed through the property so we got dropped off in the front entrance. From the entrance, we got driven with our luggage into the actual villa. We were welcome with some amazing tea and a homemade lei made out of real flower straight from their plantation! From then on, the next two nights were just too magical. We stayed for two nights and didn’t even want to leave! We felt so relaxed. The service were amazing: probably the best service ever! We had Leo to help us out with everything we needed and we could not have been happier. He made sure we were always comfortable and was our private driver from the waterfall! The food here are so on point especially the breakfast for me! We booked an hour appointment with the spa on the first day and enjoyed it so much that we had to book one of their 4 hour package spa deal on the next day. Talk about relax! Amazing service, relaxing spa, gorgeous views, quiet villa- what is there not to enjoy? I would definitely want to come back here next time we come back to Bali and would definitely love to stay longer. My husband and I stayed in one of the single cottages for two nights. Though perhaps a bit too closely spaced to the other cottages, the lumbung rice barn was a lovely concept and perfect layout with the bedroom and balcony upstairs and bathroom below. Everything was nicely, though simply, decorated and furnished and we spent a good many hours enjoying the rainy weekend from our balcony. There were quite a lot of ants in the bathroom -but no real complaints there as this is an eco-resort and to be expected (and even encouraged). The grounds are lovely and the food fantasitc. Community dance practices also take place at a community center on the property. Only positive things to say about this pleasant -albiet simple -hotel in beautiful Munduk. Munduk is lovely for long walks up and down the mountainside and through the bountiful fields.

We stayed for 3 nights and absolutely loved it here. Staff were so welcoming and friendly and organised a driver to meet us at Denpasar airport. Room was enormous and bed so comfortable. Great to sit out on terrace and take in the sounds of nature, the beautiful paddy field, sipping a Bintang whilst playing backgammon. As a city dweller it was great to be lulled to sleep every night by geckos, frogs and cicadas. Clear skies meant an abundance of stars. We took a local walking tour with Dedi an engaging guide from the hotel and he gave us a great insight into the local area and the crops grown alongside rice which concluded with a refreshing swim in Banyuatis waterfall. Dedi also took us on a half day trek to the 3 main waterfalls in Munduk which was great. Would definitely recommend both of these walks. In summary this is a wonderful haven to recharge your batteries in peace surrounded by nature

A nice spot tucked away in the mountains of Munduk. They have a cafe with a wonderful view that serves excellent food by a wonderful staff. There are 4 bungalows in back each with a fireplace and an outside deck. Wood is supplied daily for those cold, 10 degree, nights. Villa #’s 2&3 are the most up to date Staff can arrange transportation for short hops or all day tours. Unfortunately they have a serious insect problem. Was driven out of one of the nicer villas by an infestation of bugs. Was moved to villa 1 , which did not seem to have been rented for a while as the floor was dusty and it had a mildewed smell. Also the restaurant had an invasion of flies from the farm next door. This place also had some bad smells, dogs fighting all night, a steady parade of motorcycles passing through at all hours, and a bunch of roosters that didn’t wait until dawn to start crowing

Couldn't fault this gorgeous homestay. Room was exceptionally clean and bed was super comfy. Staff were genuinely helpful and friendly and one in particular made us smile everytime we saw him. We had the top floor side room (we specifically requested this) and the views were breathtaking. Windows around the whole room made it possible to lay in bed and take in the sights. The homestay was centrally located in Munduk and everything was within walking distance. The included breakfast had a variety of choices and was delicious and very generously sized. The restaurant offered a great variety of Balinese dishes and was a great place to sit and take in the views. Food was delicious and they certainly weren't stingy with the portions - super cheap to. We had 3 lunches and dinners (didn't bother going anywhere else because the food was so good) and the total bill including drinks and dessert came to less than 60 dollars for our whole stay. Wifi worked well which surprised us being in the isolated Munduk area. Room didn't have air con but this wasn't needed due to the much cooler temperatures than the rest of Bali - there was a good fan in the room. Staff were so sweet and helpful but weren't over the top. The owners little Pomeranian was adorable and we couldn't help patting him everytime we were in the reception area. Absolutely loved this place and would go as far as saying it was perfect - if only we had booked more than 3 nights.

I can't really do a review on Munduk Sari Nature Villa as after some confusion we did not end up staying there. We asked our driver to drop us there but we ended up getting dropped off at Munduk Sari Villas which apparently are owned by the same people and located about 500 m from the Nature Villa. The staff said that there was no-one at the other hotel and all the staff were now working at this hotel. We found Munduk Sari Villas to be very nice and peaceful and the view from the restaurant overlooking the valley was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I didn't plan on staying at this hotel and booked last minute. It was the best hotel I stayed in for the whole two months I was in Bali! The staff was friendly, the room was clean and homely. The shower was absolutely gorgeous and it had hot water that lasted a long time! The second day I was in Munduk it rained all afternoon but the room was so nice and with the big windows I didn't mind sitting in and reading my book all afternoon. I would highly recommend staying here!

Everything about this was amazing. The staff were very hospital, warm, attentive and non-intrusive. We felt like royalty. Very special. Recommend you try their speciality dishes for 2 for dinner. There was also a special local authentic restaurant right across the road. The place is exquisite and the pictures do not even come near to doing it justice. It took our breath away!!

This small family run hotel in Munduk is really great. If the rooms are simple, they have all the comfort that you can expected from an establishment of this category (the hosts have even installed a mini fridge for me). There is a pool and a good restaurant. The breakfast is good with pisang goreng (banana fritters), fruits and your choice of eggs or Nasi goreng (fry rice). The trail to visit the Munduk Waterfalls runs right at the hotel. And, above all, the staff is absolutely charming. I offered myself a massage performed by a very skilled therapist. Adila gave me 4 delicious Dadar Gulung (local pastry) for my travel when I left. Thanks to Adila and Putu and also to Ida (Adila's brother) and everyone

This is a great place to stay in Munduk, just a short distance from the village centre with large rooms, some marvellous views, a sense of peace and excellent family management. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at very reasonable prices and we think they would be happy to pack you a picnic sort of lunch if you were planning to hike/walk for a few hours or more. A steep climb up and down to some of the rooms with the best views so if you're not up for that ask for one close to the restaurant. Super prompt room service. All staff pleasant and attentive. Easy access to waterfall walk. Great base for two night stay.

The room was large, the bathroom was clean and we had our own private porch. The view from the porch out over the mountains was the icing on the cake. This was the first place we had a "more authentic" Bali breakfast offered which was great. Breakfast was always ready when requested and there was always staff available at the desk. The location is right in the heart of Munduk, just a short walk to the start of the waterfall trail that goes to 4 waterfalls nearby. Also a short walk to the rice terrace trail. Surprising amount of restaurant options within walking distance for how small the town is. Would highly recommend.

I booked three rooms at this small hotel in Munduk with some uncertainty because it is new and only had a few reviews. I need not have worried as Bali Bening is a delight to stay at. Run by a charming local family, this 7 room hotel is more like staying in someones private home. All is modern and new. The rooms are spacious and super clean, good wifi and internet. Simple but very tasty meals in the small terrace restaurant that features great views across the valley. Highly recommended and possibly one of the best value hotels I have ever stayed at in terms of the quality of stay vs price. Please support this small family hotel when you next visit the Mundok area!

Sanak Retreat, rest of the story Sanak Bali Retreat is the definition of a boutique hotel. It is elegant, beautifully detailed, carefully designed, eco-friendly and crafted right into the rice patties near Munduk. All of the 5 star reviews on this website can attest to the virtues. But before you book you need to be aware of the rest of the story. 1. there's no air conditioning. And while this is not a problem at midnight, it is a problem from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. when the late afternoon sun cooks through the picture glass windows and heats interior of your room up to a very uncomfortable temperature. Your only option is to turn on the fan and opened all the doors which leads me to item number 2. 2. There are no bug screens. The bugs are generally not a problem, but there are some flies and mosquitoes at dusk. So your choice is either to sweat in the heat or put up with bugs. 3. The Wi-Fi is slow and sporadic. Often it doesn't work at all. 4. The hot water is sporadic. 5. Because of your remoteness from the town of Munduk or any other village, you are completely dependent upon the hotel for all food activities and transportation and they charge accordingly. Expect to pay four times what you would pay with the same goods and services as in Munduk. 6. While the staff is very friendly and helpful, some of them do not speak English well and communications can be difficult. 7. All the rooms are nicely private and beautifully landscaped but they are small, not much bigger than a hotel room. The room has none of the usual amenities, air conditioning, TV, phone, coffee maker, or even facial tissue. They do have a mini refrigerator. The location, the views, the sunset and decor are all five star. But the basic functions and value are two star. We enjoyed our time there but it would have been nice to have a more balanced review before we booked.

There's no lift, so may not be convenient for elderly, unless they don't mind to climb stairs. Had great stay at puri alam bali hotel, best panorama mountain view with balcony, friendly staffs, clean, cozy bed, infinity swimming pool (walk down stairs abt 3 level) overseeing mountains. At night, Lots of stars. Restaurant also had great nature view, but have to climb up stairs to 3rd floor. Glad that i chose Munduk over Lovina, after seeing great review of this hotel from agoda. I booked USD17 for single room.but they gave me a family room , which is far more better than the other standard room, I think, more spacious. I drive from lovina to this hotel at munduk for 1 hour, no regret at all, cause the journey is fun , chill air up the mountain, not advisable to drive at night, can be dangerous. Whereas lovina is hot with nothing special except black sand beach, and more expensive. Marvelous, I'm glad, happy, serene, satisfied , peace , enjoy with this stay in munduk with puri alam bali hotel. Big thank you, I definitely felt that the experience I had with this hotel is compatible with those high end resort, but at much lower price.

If there is a more relaxing place on earth I don’t know where it is. This place is humble - water is luke warm at best, and the rooms are spartan, as you would expect from the low price, but it is a little piece of paradise. The place is run by two old dudes who make you a cup of coffee and banana fritters for breakfast then spend the rest of the day shooting the breeze with their mates. Views are stunning. They sell beers of a night in the little open air kitchen. WiFi is intermittent but that’s the same through the town. The chillest place ever.

We spent 1 month on Bali and had staying in many places . But it was the best . Thanks for it owners : Nyoman and Made - very soulful and kind people . We never forget you and your delicious breakfasts and dinners in Balinese style . We felt your care like children . This small family owned hotel is in the upper side of Munduk amid cloves . Rooms are small but clean and comfortable with amazing view . Adjacent balcony has table and chairs . It's good place to refresh lungs with clove air . There are many beautiful rice terraces within walking distance .

We really enjoyed our stay here and Munduk. Fantastic view from the guesthouse. The climate was pleasantly slightly cooler than on the coast. The mountainous scenery was beautiful and a nice view of nature. The friendly helpful staff upgraded us to a standard room on our arrival after Robbie said there was some problem with the economy room we booked. We had a nice large comfortable room , own bathroom with hot shower. People in Munduk are very friendly saying hello and never hassle you to buy their whares like many people on the coast. That was a pleasant change, to be left alone.

We stayed in a room for 3 people which was perfect for us. We even had a TV, but we didn’t use it. Big bathroom. The staff was really nice and we tried yoga at the waterfall. Yoga was ok, but not great. The location is in the middle of rice fields, but there is literally nothing else there. We walked around for an hour and desperately tried to find a dinner place, but there are no restaurants or warungs closeby. Besides that, this is a great place to stay and good value for your money

This is a really basic accomodation. Room was clean but bathroom needs a bit of improvement. Breakfast included was nice. The place Is located outside of Munduk village, few waterfalls are just few minutes drive. It’s really quiet around and the view is just amazing. Staff super friendly and helpful, they provided us with a map of the area with all the things worth seeing.

We really enjoyed the 6 nights we stayed in this hotel. The hotel is perfectly located to explore the surroundings of Munduk. From here you can visit waterfalls, do vulcano trekkings, visit the famous 'Ulun Danu Beratan' temple and enjoy the amazing landscape this region has to offer. The hotel is located in the middle of rice terraces and the 'deluxe room' we had was equipped with a spacious bedroom with fan, tv (with lot's of English channels), very good bed/mattress and a spacious bathroom with toilet/shower. The staff cleaned the room and made the bed everyday, breakfast is included with a choice of Indonesian or western breakfast. The restaurant has a great variety of choices for diner too. The staff is very helpful to make your stay as comfortable and good as possible. The hotel offers a great variety of trips, which are not too expensive, and which are completely customisable to fit your wishes/needs. Overall this hotel was the best we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Bali.

Two friends and I stayed two nights at Dangin Magkalan homestay and enjoyed every second of it. The homestay is well located near the three munduk waterfall course and has a great view overlooking the village. It s a really nice and peaceful place. The hosts were also very friendly and helpful, they booked a great jungle treck+ canoe tour for us. We couldn’t be more happy!

This remote and beautiful villa is run by a heart warming elderly couple. After we arrived, a sympathetic man named Dedi (who speaks English well and helps with the bookings/guests) showed us around the property and the village, all the while explaining it’s workings. We were also provided with options for activities and a motorcycle to get around by ourselves (upon request). The villa itself is situated in the middle of a quiet farming village, next to a small rice terrace. There is a lot agricultural activity going on around the property, which definitely adds to the feel of escaping the busy parts of Bali. We planted our first rice and were invited to have a look around in the cake baking facility, which also resides on the property. The couple running the accommodation (and the farm) view their guests as family and we certainly felt that way. They took their time to explain and show their way of life to us.
