Exceptional”
If agoda wants me to rate any other category in addition to "Rooms", "Service", "Location", I would still give Full five stars. Our stay at Momiji-ya Annex Kawa-no-lori, the traditional Japanese inn, was this satisfactory. I WISHED I have checked in earlier than 6.00 pm so that I can explore more. The rooms were clean, well-maintained and provided with all the items that we may need for our stay. Open-air bath at -1 degrees at night may be scary, but we were glad that we did not skip it. The hot water was so nice, and I did not remember the last time that I had such a good night sleep. The service level was consistently high since we set foot on their shuttle bus at the designated train station. The staff, especially the nice lady who served us the Kaiseke dinner as well as the breakfast, was sincere and helpful. The fancy Kaiseke multi-course dinner served at our room was such a fantastic highlight. It was our first time, and the dining experience itself was worth quite a big portion of the room charges. And, to top it off, the delicious Japanese traditional breakfast in the wonderful setting of the Inn's dining room was a delightful fuel for us to keep going for sightseeing at Kyoto. The stream at the base of the Inn under the suspension bridge is so casually crystal clear. I wish that I have more time to explore more of the surroundings. It is definitely pleasant. We may not be able to come back again in the future, but the night at Momiji-ya Annex Kawa-no-lori will be a good memory that we will cherish from time to time whenever we talk about Kyoto.

Wonderful ryokan experience”
Great location among nature not too far off Kyoto, outstanding service by staff and delicious kaiseki meals. We absolutely enjoyed the private hot bath overlooking the woods and stream. The bath was ready for use as staff covered the water with insulation and you can press a button to keep it warm for 5 hours. Unforgettable experience enjoying a dip early in the morning! The ryokan served us with delicious local delicacies and high quality matcha. Despite the cold rainy winter night, we slept very comfortably thanks to the thick duvet and a hot pack for our feet! From the shuttle bus and luggage-carrying to the meals and futon-laying, the staff hospitality was impeccable. The lady who served us even bowed to all guests just before the shuttle departs. Everyone should try this ryokan at least once.

What a great experience!”
We stayed at Momijiya for two nights. The location was a bit remote, but they had a shuttle bus ready to get us from/to Hanazono station. The surroundings were quite peaceful and beautiful. We experienced a Japanese tradition of eating, bathing, and sleeping. The staffs were quite friendly. They speak little English but were helpful and warm. All meals were delicious and exquisite! We would love to stay there again in the future.

Best services I have ever experienced in Japan”
I usually don't bother to write a review but this time I feel the need to do so. I traveled to Japan in Dec22 and booked Momijiya Bekkan for one night with dinner and breakfast. During my drive to the hotel I had a minor car accident, which cost my few hours to handle. While the hotel has a strict dinner hour, the staff were extremely helpful through our the process. We already expected to lose our dinner because of the late arrival. We end up arriving at the place at 7.30pm, which is already past dinner time. But to our surprise the staff actually still prepared our meal for us. I can't express how grateful I was to have a lovely and super delicious hotpot after an exhausting day handling car issue. The staff were also very friendly and nice. Food quality (both dinner hot pot and breakfast) was higher than most of the place we've been to. The outdoor private onsen was amazing and the environment is lovely. I can't express my gratitude to the staff but 1000% recommended! P.s. if you are not experienced driver, I would recommend using their shuttle services - the road to this place is not the easiest to drive haha

Exceeded our expectations!”
Just twenty minutes from the pick up point in Kyoto, this was like entering a magic world. The Ryokan is nestled deep in the mountains and lit up by paper lanterns. Staff were friendly and the food was outstanding, too. This is the place.

Exceptional stay, had a great time!”
From start to finish, all the staff was very helpful and kind, very patient and attentive. The kaiseki dinner was exceptionally good, the traditional multiple course dinner was so beautiful and elegant and highlighted the ingredients so wonderfully. We got a room in the Annex with a private bath and I wanted to stay in the bath FOREVER. It's not big but it fit me and my husband comfortably. The view from the bath was lovely and so relaxing. There is a shower in the suite as well as a toilet (I was worried about that, reading the other reviews). The futons were so warm and so comfortable. The maid also put a heater at the foot of the futon so my feet were toasty warm all night! Haven't slept so well in a long time. It is a beautiful get away, and when I come back to Japan, would definitely book this ryokan again! Wish I could stay forever!

Beautiful ryokan deep in the mountains”
We went a bit off the peak of the autumn foliage and it looked awesome. Consider yourself lucky if you could make it during the peak The staffs were extremely attentive, caring and friendly that made our stay very pleasant. I guess they were not back to full capacity yet thus was little flexibility with the shuttle bus schedule. Otherwise we couldve explored the area a bit more than we'd liked

A wonderful experience!”
If you have a car, or are able to coordinate a ride in advance, it would be an easy place to visit. I took a JR Bus all the way into town and the staff found us at the bus stop to take up the last few kms. The staff was amazing and the food was wonderful. I slept so well. I wish I had stayed an extra day as it would have been nice to be able to see more of the property and god down to the river. The views were absolutely gorgeous. The sound of the river is so calming.

Extremely serene”
Shared baths are small but I didn't have to share the facility with anyone both times I went (once before breakfast, once after dinner). Shuttle only picks up and drops off once a day. Mildly inconvenient. Extremely serene and beautiful setting. Staff were attentive and welcoming. Meals had good variety and a healthy portion!

An experience of a life time ! ”
The stay was very refreshing. From the moment they picked us up, checking in (was a breeze), to the rooms and checking out, they made sure all our needs were taken care of and assisted us with the luggage as well. The food was a delight! And the rooms were fully equipped with all the amenities required, even cleasning oil, toner and moisturizer. Worth for the price !

Fabulous Ryokan ”
When my family stepped into this estate we felt like we were in the movie “spirited away”. The location was rather far from the city center but this aspect made our holiday even better, we could rest quietly concentrate to each others far away from the noise(there are shuttles from the subway station). The facilities were old but we didn’t mind that much cause the excellent service staffs provided pretty much covered the shortcoming.

Value for money”
The location is abit far off from the main streets. Glad that the ryokan provide a shuttle service picking you up from the nearest JR station. The place is beautiful & clean. If you are going for a night stay and wanna pack light, the ryokan provides basic amenities and skincare such as facial cleanser and lotion. The food was fantastic as well. Will visit there again

Great experience”
We loved the outside tub. The staff was nice. Very cozy. If you have never done a Ryokan before, this would be a good one to try. Otherwise, I would stay at a "normal" hotel. I did feel like I was overcharged for one of our dinners. It was a little confusing. I think on Agoda, don't purchase the added special meals. I felt I paid it for no added benefit.

A Japanese Haven”
First thing I recomend is to stay minimum 2 nights. The check in time is 4 pm, check out is 10am, it is too rush if u stay only one night. There are shuttle buses to and from train station, I emailed them for the information. Food is pretty visually, great quality and delicious. Go for it, u will not regret it.

Highly recommend for travelers looking for a unique, traditional accommodation outside of Kyoto. Loved the private Onsen, Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast!

just relax ”
Had a peaceful and good rest at the Momijiya Ryokan. Me and my wife appreciated Sakee ( hope i get his name correct) and all staffs for being very patient, attentive and helpful during our stay. i booked a room with no bathtub. Meaning i can not shower within the room, i need to go to the public bathtub ( share ) . Both time i am there, no one else is there. i guessed everyone else must have both room with bathtub. [ do take note, we can book a private bathtub for 45 mins for a minimum fee] The Great thing is that there is toilet within the room. The dinner and breakfast was beautifully arrange and it taste amazing. There is no shop within the vicinity, i would suggest to bring your own wine or liquor and some crackers. Do take note there will be no other activities after Dinner.
