Resort Mai Chau Ecolodge is very beautiful, a great place for relaxation and experiencing the countryside scenery of the Northwest. It's great to borrow free bicycles to visit the Thai ethnic villages and ride on the winding green paths of the rice fields. If you come during the rice harvest season, it's even more wonderful. The swimming pool is very beautiful. At night, the resort also organizes cultural exchanges and drinking can wine with the Thai people. It feels very cozy. If you have the opportunity to come to Mai Chau, I will choose Ecolodge and recommend it to friends!

Great getaway from the city hustle”
Spent 3 fantastic nights at the lodge! It’s an ecolodge so don’t expect a luxury resort, but they have everything one can need including a pool, a spa (heard from other guests the massages were firm, yet relaxing), a restaurant, a nightly dance show (a different program every night I was there) & Wi-Fi throughout. Room was large, clean and well appointed with a comfortable bed (firm like most hotels in Asia, but not the firmest bed I’ve encountered), a large walk-in shower (no tub, but think that varies by room), an outdoor shower, usual toiletries, & complimentary water, fruit and rice wine. No tv in the room, but Wi-Fi is sufficient for streaming if needed. Like many said, opt for rooms closest to the reception/restaurant if you have difficulty walking, as the stone steps and walkways can be tricky. Mild annoyance: water pressure in the shower was a little low, whereas the outdoor shower was intense. Had to go outside to rinse my hair or it would have taken a long while. The food at the restaurant was delicious, portions were quite large & prices were reasonable. There are a couple nearby villages (under half mile) that are easily walkable, but the roads have no street lights, so unless you have transportation, you’re stuck there after the sun sets. They certainly could have set high food prices but they didn’t, so that’s a big plus. The included breakfast had multiple Vietnamese and western options. Tours & activities are available. I opted for a full day bike tour that covered about 21 miles and included a tasty lunch at a local homestay. My guide, Vung, was friendly and being local, was a font of knowledgeable and information. He even found a sugarcane juice stand to end the 7+ hour tour. In hindsight, I should have gone with the half day tour, but it was at a leisurely pace and mostly flat, but if you’re not used to that much biking, the half day option would be better. Mai Chau Ecolodge is a beautiful resort located in the middle of the Mai Chau valley. There are rice fields in-front of the bungalows and mountains all around. It is peaceful and quiet, only a few hours away from Hanoi, yet it feels like a different universe. There are no cars, you can hear the birds and insects, the wind in the trees, at night you can see the stars. The resort is clean and mindful of the environment. They try to save electricity and water where possible, and remind the guest to do the same. There are no TVs in the room, but there is Wifi. Unfortunately we had connectivity issues with the internet. The router is placed outside of the rooms, and is shared between two rooms. Due to the thick stone walls of the houses, the wifi signal cannot reach convenient locations such as the Bed. Signal keeps dropping or is at one bar connection strength. Please place one router in each room to avoid this issue in the future. The food is good, there is a wide range of options on the menu, which is the same for lunch and dinner. Some local specialities have to be ordered in advance. Breakfast has a lot of options, too, with some overlap of the standard menu. Fruit juices all come with extra sugar added, make sure to ask for drinks without sugar if you want to taste the natural fruit flavours. The pool is quite small, but in the light of eco-friendly hospitality, this makes sense. All rooms have air condition and a ceiling fan, the interior is very attractive and has some thought put into it. All in all, I had a great trip and would come again!

For an ecolodge, they need to seal the doors and windows and insulate better. Room was freezing (winter) so we had to crank the heating all night, while cold air drifted in through all of the gaps. Not particularly eco friendly, but nothing more we could do besides burn electricity to stay warm. Nice hotel overall, great staff, views, good free bike rental service, evening cultural dance was great. We loved cycling around the villages. Restaurant dinner was underwhelming - only tried one main - the Beef Pho. Pretty flavourless, with grissly meat, for a dish that is essentially a Vietnamese staple. We returned for dessert-only the second night, after eating elsewhere in town, and the dessert was excellent. So maybe all of their other menu options are great (I’ll never know?), but given the restaurant prices were about 3-5x inflated vs what you pay elsewhere in Vietnam, I wasn’t willing to chance a second plain meal, in a country full of tasty food options. Restaurant pricing needs to be looked at. Breakfast selection was good - but food was sometimes cold or lukewarm - again, due to all the cold air draughts blowing into the breakfast area through the gaps in doors, windows, and doors simply left open. A shame for something that could be easily and cheaply fixed. For a top tier hotel in the region, I can’t say we were any more satisfied than the $15/night family home stay we stayed at prior to visiting Mai Chau. All up though, it was okay and we did enjoy our stay! 🙂

Many of us travel from Hanoi, their location is in the mountain so you will need to give your driver a little heads up before getting off in the village of Mai Chau. Good views and nice facilities. Staffs here are friendly and English speaking. The food here is good value and clean. If only to complain, the SPA is not very professional but except that, everything is lovely. I have spent a good time there!
