Charm and efficiency in beautiful surroundings.”
I've been many times to La Taverna so obviously I do recommend it. The only downside would be the price, although I keep going back, I always make my reservation through internet, the prices you will get if you contact the hotel directly (or even at the reception after having spent already more than a week there) are simply not worth it. Furthermore, if you're looking for the "classic", modern (and in my opinion soulless) hotel, go somewhere else, La Taverna is all about timeless charm, all the rooms are different, the architecture is classic balinese style with a touch of european class, yes the doors are old wooden double doors that close with a big padlock, bathrooms are simple but lovely (sunken bathtub and/or shower, soap, shower gel,shampoo, conditionner, toothbrush, etc...), electric mosquitoe repellant (some rooms have mosquitoe nets but not all of them), rooms are cleaned twice a day (usually in the morning while you're having breakfast and sometime in the evening), no, there is no TV in the room (but if you really can't miss it there is one under a big pagoda with comfortable couches), free wifi access at the restaurant and at the reception. All in all, my favorite place in Sanur but it all depends on your expectations, this is no 5 star 150 rooms, world class hotel (and it doesn't try to be so, on the contrary), it is a charming "boutique" hotel with excellent service, very friendly and efficient staff (from the gardener to the receptionist), you will be pampered throughout your stay. For those who complained about the breakfast, it is a mystery to me, my daily breakfast was a fresh mixed fruit juice (don't ask for an orange juice, oranges are not a local fruit so obviously it's not fresh, take lime instead or any other local fruit, papaya, mango, banana, pineapple, etc...), tea (you get a teapot, not just a cup), a plate of fresh fruits, eggs (anyway you like them) with toast and either ham or bacon and croissants (still hot from the oven) with but

Great family beach hotel in tropical garden”
we stayed at la taverna hotel 21 years ago and loved it so we decided to stay there again when visiting bali. it is still beautiful, staff still really friendly, rooms and gardens kept very clean and tidy, but still there is a very relaxed family friendly atmosphere. although very central in sanur, once you step into the beautiful gardens of the hotel it is quiet and peaceful. the restaurant is set right by the beach and we enjoyed dinner there one night where the weekly live jazz band performed. breakfast was very nice, freshly cooked and plenty of it. our hotel room had a small fairly private verandah useful for reading or playing cards whilst sipping a cocktail.

i recommend starting your trip off at la taverna. it's just 15 minutes from the airport and you arrive in this majestic hotel with sounds of croaking frogs and lush surroundings where you can relax right on the beach and realize you are on vacation. agung a server there will chat about life in bali and greet you daily with a smile, you get breakfast free and both a pool or the beach to swim in. walk 2 minutes from the hotel and you have restaurants, shops and masseuses to let the stress away. we stayed 4 days here then off to ubud to see the jungles. great driver sandy works sometimes with la taverna and took us to different villages on the way to ubud for something like rupiah and was charming the whole way. la taverna set the tone for the whole trip! have fun,

Beautiful beach resort, great service”
We loved our stay at La Taverna. It's one of those places that looks just as good as it does on their website. And it is on the best stretch of gorgeous Sanur Beach. Our room was beautiful, with a unique pebbled bathroom, and a large verandah. The hotel gardens were beautiful, with several beautifully furnished outdoor rooms, and a lovely pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a fresh fruit platter, fresh croissants, toast and eggs cooked to order. The hotel restaurant serves delicious italian food, though it is a bit expensive for Bali. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance on either side, along the beach.

Unique Hotel in a great loction”
La Taverna is an older hotel that is full of charm and has lots of character. It is a family friendly hotel but is also ideal for couples or singles. I had seen photos taken of the rooms by other travelers on other websites, and read reviews which were a little unflattering to the hotel. However, I enjoyed La Taverna and would not hesitate to stay there again. I was not disappointed with my room, service or any part of the hotel. La Taverna provides a different experience from the usual hotels in Sanur and the fact there is no TV in the rooms is refreshing. My partner and I enjoyed having afternoon drinks on our balcony and never felt we were intruding on others or visa versa. My partner and I loved staying at the hotel and are looking forward to staying there again.

Great location and a charming hotel”
I had a lovely stay at La Taverna. My room had a little patio and an enclosed air-conditioned verandah. I loved the extra space. The hotel is quite charming and although some parts are a little old, it is still as lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's very conveniently located on the main street in Sanur and has a restaurant right on the beach. The food however(breakfast included) is just alright, it's nothing worth writing home about.

It was a pleasure to stay at La Taverna, the staff were so friendly and very helpful. The location was fantastic, being right on the beach, in a quiet position yet near to the centre of Sanur. It was great to stay in a traditional hotel, with beautiful gardens, a warm swimming pool and to have peace and quiet.

there are a lot of hotels along this stretch of beach at sanur, but judged from the outside i think la taverna is one of the most characterful ones. very laidback atmosphere and not too many guests when we were there on honeymoon in the first week of june 2011. the rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is good, and it's right by the main road, so you can easily walk along and find restaurants and shops to nose around in.

lovely hotel ”
we really enjoyed our stay at la taverna and would recommend it to others. the rooms are uniquely decorated and grounds nicely landscaped. beautiful view of the beach from the restaurant and nice private beach area. good location for other restaurants and the beachfront walk. breakfast menu was reduced during our stay we assume in an effort to cut costs so now there is little choice. whilst the staff were friendly and helpful they didn't seem particulary happy. unfortuneately on our last day we witnessed the expatriate manager speaking to reception staff and were shocked by his rudeness and his attitude, the poor lady on reception looked quite fearful. improved senior management with a focus on employee engagement would also improve guests experience.

Old and charming beach hotel. Ideal in many ways. ”
The La Taverna Hotel in Bali has been around since the 1970s, and while it is a bit frayed at the edges it has the charm and comfort of a quirky independent inn. If you want the manufactured frills of a chain, this is not the place for you but if you want the ambiance of an earlier time in Bali tourism, the La T is ideal. The room was large, with a big bathroom tiled in stone and a walk-in shower that was huge fun for my daughter. It had a big front porch that served as a living room and the place was big enough that the small one called it, "Our little house." The restaurant's Italian food was good - the pizza was a hit - and the swimming pools were fine and there were lots of other kids about, which was great. It is right on the quiet Sanur beach, so the ocean was our front door. The breakfast was OK, not great, and some of the staff are new and untrained. The staff, however, were friendly and helpful. In short, this is a great place from another time. It is comfortable, relaxing and charming. I loved it. My daughter loved it. I have been to Bali dozens of times but this was my first stay at the La Taverna. I will be coming back.

Chaming beachfront hotel”
Spent our last night in Bali at La Taverna Hotel. The hotel grounds and pool are rather tired, but the standard deluxe rooms were charming and large with lovely covered patios. The beds were king and very comfortable, and the bathrooms were very large and well-appointed. The restaurant (including the included breakfast) is close to the beach and the food is OK if nothing to write home about. Sanur is an older beachfront town with a good beach (not swimmable unless the tide is in), some charm and a variety of beachfront restaurants although visitors should be aware that it is older and that they can expect the cheap masseuses to hound them.

Very pleasant and relaxing”
It was my second time in La Taverna, and equally enjoyed staying there both times. Appreciated clean and spacious room and gardens, as well as restaurant and pool. Friendly staff, tastefully decorated restaurant/bar and pool area. Clean beach with a great service. Good variaty of food to chose from at the restaurant and bar menu. Hotel is perfectly located by the beach, close from the airport, close to shops and money exchange. Will highly recommend it to others.

La Taverna - Sept 2010”
La Taverna was an excellent place to stay. The beach is great for kids as there is lots of shallow water. The markets and restaurants are all around you. Close to ATMs, tradional market and there is a convenience store right next door. It's not a hotel full of mod cons, but we liked the older style and that there was no TV or Wi-fi in the room (not so tempting for the teenager). There was TV (60 channels) and Wi-fi in a very comfortable large hut in the centre of the hotel. We were even able to watch Australian AFL preliminary finals there instead of finding a sports bar. All in all, we would definitely stay there again - best location in Sanur.

I dont think I should rave too much about the lovely time we had at La Taverna as everyone reading this will want to go there and next time we will miss out! We are in our 60,s and loved the old world charm of the place, the rooms decor and spanish style architecture.The grounds,with old trees are beautiful. The pool and beach were perfect and as I said above the restaurant, ambience,and food were perfect. The staff were pleasant and very professional. It was calm,quiet and laid back. seemed to be a great one for families also. A good place for small children. We loved the fact that it didnt have T.V

I really enjoyed my stay with La Taverna. The staff were friendly and very accomidating. The breakfast was good, not buffet due to there being so few rooms. being right on the beach made for easy access and if you got lost you head for the beach and you could always find your way back. The bonsi cafe next door did a really lovely satay and the bonsis were well worth a visit even if you are not into them! Our rooms was lovely felt very safe. we had air con which most nights was put on for us by the staff. The rooms were very clean and had eveything you would need, lots of space. Bathrooms were quirky and fun! My mother and I had a really lovely stay here.

Authentic hotel with Balinese Charm ”
I had a lovely stay at La Taverna. It felt like an authentic Balinese hotel with beautiful grounds, friendly staff and very relaxed atmosphere. Fairly quiet as only 20 or so rooms. The restaurant was lovely and the beach was very peaceful with not too many people. Overall one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. For my 2nd week I stayed in another hotel further down the bay and it had nowhere near the same amount of charm and authenticity of this place!

i found la taverna the perfect place to stay, if travelling on your own. its quite quiet and you can tuck into a good book in the restaurant (which has its own beach!), feeling very comfortable. the breakfast was very generous and you can get a decent coffee. the room is clean, there is a nice sitting area and the grounds are beautiful.

Family Suite”
we loved where it was and how you can walk out to the bar/pool area and the beach is right there. you can also turn left or right onto the footpath along the beach and explore many shops, restaurants etc in sanur. we would not stay again though because of the room. we stayed in the family suite with our two children (6&8yrs) which is two rooms interconnected by a bathroom. sounds great, but the rooms are tiny - we called it our "little hobbit hole", as we had to duck to go through the doors just to get in. cute & funny for an hour or so, but not so much after a night sleeping in one. there was also huge holes and gaps in the doors for any mozzies/bugs to get through and so we had to spray even more than usual as an added precaution - we still got attacked by mozzies at night. saying all of that, i haven't seen the junior suites which might just be lovely and more modern. we were looking for something with two bedrooms at an affordable price that would be suited for a couple with two children and unfortunately the la taverna fell short of what we were hoping for.

Great Location”
I have stayed in Sanur may times at a few smaller hotels and La Taverna did not disappoint. The location was great, the staff were friendly and it was quite comfortable. The only thing I would suggest to them would maybe be an update in the plumbing (our 1st room had a few problems with toilet flushing & hot water but not unusual in Bali!) as soon as we let them know we were upgraded to a lovely room at no extra charge. I would luv to see them have a buffet breakfast like most of the other hotels as the breakfast was very basic but it was quite ok. All in all we had a very memorable and lovely stay at La Taverna and would definitely stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Taverna and will definately return soon. The staff are very friendly, the restaurant is very romantic on the beach and the food is excellent. The pool area is private and perfect for relaxing. The location is great too, we walked to most places.
