A Sexy Hotel”
I say sexy because of how aesthetically pleasing it is from the moment you walk in. Staff speaks English well which was super helpful to us Americans. The room was very comfortable with a huge bed, plenty of pillows and a wonderful bathroom. The hotel offers onsens…one for males and one for females. It is kept very clean and sanitized. The lobby has coffee and tea service 24 hours a day. Location is in the heart of the Gion district and ease to Kyoto Station. Many places to eat and shop in the vicinity. We absolutely loved this hotel and applaud the staff for providing a first class experience.

Great location nice hotel”
The hotel is in a great location and it was clean and as nice as any of the hotels we stayed at in Japan but definitely the most expensive aside from the ryokan we stayed at. The public bath great, and the beds comfortable for us. A little dusty but 5/5. If you’re booking more than one room, however, we witnessed in person as well as some of the reviews here of the challenges of booking rooms next to each other so just be aware.

Excellent in location, service, room quality, style, and comfort!”
The eco-friendly hotel looks like a traditional Japanese house on the outside but it's a stylish boutique hotel in the interior. On a quiet street a 3-min walk from the famous Kamo River and the central shopping area. Walk 5 mins in the opposite direction and you're in Gion where shops selling all kinds of traditional Japanese handicfafts and confectionery are located. Love the spacious tatami mat room. Usually one would need to pay 50% more for such good quality accommodation. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Had a great stay at Granbell. The hotel is beautifully designed and very clean. The staff are nice and helpful. Location was perfect, lots of nice restaurants and bars close by. Konbini and station not too far as well. Definitely staying here my next time in Kyoto

Exceptional”
Everything is great. The only thing I didn’t like is limited housekeeping but they compensate by sending you towels everyday. Location - Convenient. Near subway and bus station. Sites are walking distance. Also, I like that I can go to original Arabica coffee shop in just 10mins Facilities - Public bath is awesome! Free water and tea too in the common area. Didn’t get to try their buffet though but it looks good Cleanliness - Hotel and room is clean no doubt about it. My only concern is limited housekeeping Customer Service - Top notch! As expected to all japanese hotels. Staff are nice and friendly Price - A bit pricey compared to other hotels in Kyoto but I would say this is the best in Gion area Hotel room - Premiere King is perfect for a solo traveler with a huge luggage. There will definitely a problem if you share the room with someone

Luxury looking hotel without the hefty price tag”
What a surprise. Very clean and welcoming hotel. Free coffee and teas with lots of seatings in the lobby. Facial masks, skin care and other basic amenities are provided. CL se to the train station and restaurants. Ito-en is just around the corner. We loved our stay. The only downside is that the staff barely speaks English.

Wonderful!”
Stayed 5 nights over Sakura season and this hotel was incredible! Great location within a 5 minute walk to Gion and to the train station/bus stops. The staff was so gracious and friendly (and they have a couple people on staff who speak English for those not from Japan). They went above and beyond to ensure we would be absolutely satisfied with our stay (made room recommendations for our reservations) and they made my daughters birthday so special with origami animals and reserving a cake for us! The room was comfortable, quiet, dark. There’s massage services available after the long walks from touring Kyoto! And the public bath was beautiful and perfectly hot! We ate breakfast at the hotel daily (except not served on weekends) and it was delicious! And slightly different every day! We received some drink coupons and the bar area is very relaxing. Fresh ground/brewed Coffee is available all day in the lobby They had many COVID precautions, but it did not limit the comfort of our experience!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND”
I would absolutely recommend The Granbell to travelers to Kyoto! The location is central to many of the temples, restaurants, and other sights you'd likely visit. The staff was amazing and accomodating, and the breakfast was delicious. Just an FYI--the onsite public bath does not allow tattoos.

Excellent location, lovely rooms!”
Extremely pleased with the hotel. Location is fantastic, short walk to major Gion attractions, many nearby bars and restaurants. All important 7/11 around the corner too. Decor of the rooms was very nice, as was access to Apple TV facilities. My only suggestion would be if you enjoy sleeping in, to request a room on level 1 or above, not basement, as the basement rooms are below the restaurant, and in the mornings you can hear chairs being dragged throughout the breakfast service.

BEST HOTEL STAY in Japan”
I've traveled all over Japan during my 2 week holiday, from tip to toe and Kyoto Granbell Hotel was the best stay, make sure you have the address written down in case you need to show a taxi driver as they will think its Granvia not Granbell, so I had to keep showing people where the address is. It has a beautiful and modern onsen, dark and calm, the breakfast buffet was delicious and catered to both japanese and western giving us an insight of what the actual japanese breakfast is like, the room was clean, the staff super friendly. I would definitely come here again, later on in our journey we had another hotel stay which ended up being shabby looking so we left and went to find another Granbell in that area, Granbell Shinjuku in Tokyo this place was also very friendly and accommodating and clean. Granbell is definitely a good company to stay with, on my next trip i'm going to book with Granbell for most of my stays in different citys.

Best Location to Stay in Kyoto!”
I loved this hotel -- the room is pretty small, but I don't even think that is worth complaining about since all hotels in Japan have small rooms. I stayed in three hotels while in Japan, and this one had the most spacious and comfortable bed out of them all. I had a king-sized bed in my room. The hotel itself is really cool -- I loved the decor and the very modern, relaxed vibe. The public onsen in the basement was really nice, especially during the winter and after a long day of walking. We paid for the breakfast which is definitely worth it. The food was great -- a mixture of traditional Japanese foods with some more typical "hotel" breakfast-type food. It was just really nice to wake up and be able to not worry about where to find breakfast in the morning. Location was also super ideal for a tourist. I LOVE the neighborhood ! The staff were super nice and polite -- always accomodating and helpful. If I stay in Kyoto again, I would definitely book the Kyoto Granbell Hotel!

Hip modern hotel with Japanese aesthetic ”
I have to commend hotel reception Ms Miyu Yakabe for helping us with our lost baggage and redirecting it to our last stop in Osaka on checking in to Kyoto Granbell. Thank you, Miyu! The hotel arranged a Maiko show in the hotel lobby. It was a special event. We absolutely loved it! The dance and interaction during the show by Maiko Fukunae san was most enlightening and interesting. Do get tickets to this show. Fantastic location to access Gion and train stations to other places. The buses in Kyoto are so convenient and quite easy to use. Bus stops are very near hotel. You can take Raku buses 100, 101 and 102 for sight seeing. We took a normal bus as we did not have much time. We stayed in twin rooms, even though small, were very comfortable with Handy mobile phones you can use outside hotel. Good coffee in the lobby for the guest and it’s complimentary. The public bath on B1 is great. Try it. The lobby setup is very cool and inviting. Long couches and a long table to sit. Great hotel !

Perfect Place to stay in Kyoto!”
Cannot recommend this hotel more. I don't usually write reviews but felt Granbell deserved one. Its a perfect location in Gion (which is really the most beautiful part of Kyoto with the cobbled streets and Geishas walking by you if you are lucky enough on an evening!) with great restaurants and station round the corner. As an interior design wise feel they have done it beautifully, with a Japanese modern, eclectic mix. Also nice to have the 'public bath pool' downstairs after a long day. Staff also very helpful with us for items we forget which they have kindly posted. Only down side would say is the coffee from the coffee machine, but this is complimentary so really cant complain! Recommend to ALL friends to stay here when in Kyoto

EXCELLENT LOCATION AND BREATHTAKING FACILITIES!”
You CANNOT beat the location of the Granbell Hotel in the Gion District!! We walked EVERYWHERE we needed to during our 2-night stay in Kyoto! The facilities were just beautiful and the rooms were stunning/chock full of amenities and upscale touches.....please be sure to enjoy the private bath/onsen during your stay here. Would highly recommend this hotel to any family/friends visiting Kyoto!

Lovely Hotel Nestled in the Heart of Kyoto”
Kyoto Granbell is a lovely hotel located on a small side street in the heart of the Gion district. It is steps away from both intimate restaurants, as well as the hustle and bustle of the main Shijo Avenue. The hotel hosted a Maiko Show during our stay and it was a wonderful experience. The common areas have a sophisticated decor, the rooms are well appointed and clean, and the staff is friendly and very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here on my next trip to Kyoto!

Best place I have ever stayed”
Where to begin with the Kyoto Granbell, I don't even know! This place was beyond expectations, and the staff was absolutely amazing. They were some of the most helpful and kindest people I have ever met, and definitely went above and beyond expectation. The place itself is beautiful and so clean you could eat off the floor. The breakfast buffet was super delicious (especially the curry!) and the onsen was so relaxing. To give you some more details about my personal experience, when I first arrived I had just gotten stuck in a typhoon, sprained my ankle, and broke my glasses. Needless to say I wasn't feeling all that great, so when I took a taxi to the hotel from Kyoto station, of course I forgot it in the taxi. When I realized, I went to the front desk in a panic, and the lady at the front (who spoke amazing English) was more than willing to help me. I wish I had gotten her name - but she called all the taxi companies and while she did that another lady (Hiroko) took me to the police station to file a report. Not only did she walk me there, but she translated my situation and information to the police, and the police were super helpful too! They gave me a case number, took down my information, and all of the details about my phone. When we got back, the first lady, Hiroko, and another gentleman (Yota) gave me information on a couple nearby internet cafes to access the internet so I could contact Verizon and a couple friends since I assumed I would never get my phone back. They even let me use the phone at the front desk to make an international call to my mom, just so she knew what was going on in case I couldn't contact her or anyone else until I got back. After leaving and searching for the internet cafes and walking around downtown Kyoto for a while, I got back and low and behold Yota was super happy in reporting that the taxi driver came back later that evening with my phone safe and sound. Only in Japan would this ever happen - and I can't begin to explai

The best hotel experience on my trip”
My boyfriend and I stayed at 4 different hotels in Japan this trip, and Kyoto Granbell was hands down the best hotel we've stayed at. It was brand new and located right in the middle of a very convenient area which was bustling with night life. Train stations were only 5 minutes away and we were surrounded by delicious restaurants. The hotel staff were extremely polite and helpful. The rooms were very clean and spacious. Their public bath is very comfortable and new and their breakfast buffet had an array of local ingredients and also western breakfast, and everything tasted amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto. Great value for the services they offer.

Thank you very much for staying with us. We are very happy to hear that you had a good time in our hotel. Your review encourage us to improve higher quality of our service and hospitality. Our hotel is located in the center of Gion. Also, our breakfast has traditional meal in Kyoto, so you can enjoy the different Kyoto style in your next trip. We look forward to seeing you in the future. Again, thank you very much for taking your time for this review. Sincerely yours, Receptionist : Chiaki Ishiwata
Closest to the Gion District, great hotel space”
I love the Gion District and Kyoto, and I wanted to spot some geishas or maikos around the area. The Kyoto Granbell is the perfect place to stay as it is closest to the Gion Corner. The hotel is very posh and sophisticated. The room is very spacious, not at all like the ones in Tokyo/Osaka. The window view overlooking the Gion District is unforgettable.

Tasteful but tiny!”
The Kyoto Granbell Hotel is brand spanking new having opened in July 2017. Albeit the recent opening, the service seems to have smoothened and the staff were brilliant. We were conscious Japanese hotel rooms would be 'smaller' in size than what we would normally get, say, in the US. With that in mind, we had booked one of their bigger room offerings, the Premier Double, which turned out to be smaller than we imagined. To make up for this small room size was the large bed (the comfiest we've slept in!) and the zen minimalistic design of the hotel. Every aspect of the hotel was well designed with great taste. The public bath offered in the ground floor of the hotel was a great facility to relax at the end of a busy day touring Kyoto's wonders. The area where the hotel is located, Gion, is steps away from the wonderful historic Kyoto districts where, if you walk down the narrow streets, may potentially run into geishas and whatnot.

Wonderful Accommodation's”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kyoto Granbell hotel. Location is as perfect as it gets. Dining, shopping, site-seeing, transportation are all just a very short walk away. A refreshing change from the ultra-modern metropolis that is Tokyo. The hotel itself is modern, stylish with friendly, helpful staff, comfortable rooms and has a lovely spa. Highly recommended and we would definitely stay there again.
