"I booked this hotel because I was unable to book a room in Takamatsu. If you plan to go to Oboke and Kotohira it could be an option to stay in Kotohira for a night. However hotel itself requires 15 min walk from JR Kotohira station and the small town doesn't offer a lot including restaurants and food at night. Room is clean and hotel itself is quite modern. There is a supermarket right across the street."

"Con: Location is off the JR station. it's an about 12 mins walking from the station and there's no bus (taxi are available). I don't know if it counts as a con since there's no other hotel is like "right beside" the station in Kotohira, but as a traveler with a large size luggage I think I should point this out. Pro: 1) Facility is so great. Most people come to Kotohira is for the Kotohira Shrine, and a comfortable and spacious Onsen after the thousand-steps hiking is just straight relaxing and make you feel you are on vacation. The huge room (even larger than most Ryokan I stayed in Japan) and clear view is also enjoyable, definitely gave me a feel of escape from the city life. 2) Staffs are helpful and kind. They gave us clear instruction and booklet about the different routes to the Kotohira shrine. Shuttle bus to the JR station are provided and we were a bit late for leaving time. The staffs gave us a quick checkout to make sure we would catch the train. Recommend! "

"Almost perfect except for its a bit far away from oboke station, but its free shuttle service to and from the station, even to another nearby hotel as in my case, got rid of the location problem. Once arrived in the hotel, the receptionist who i still remember her name, was so helpful not only explaining the hotel facilities and onsen usage, but also assisting us to plan our upcoming activities during our stay. I was greatly impressed by that. The public onsen is really great. There is a special facilitity where you stand at the center and it fires arrays of strong water beams at your body. The open air onsen is very pleasant with the view of the back hill, with some beautiful maples leaves floating on the onsen surface. All in all, we enjoy the whole experience and would recommend it to anyone interested in taking a relaxed day with hot spring onsen."
