“Rude staff”
I'm a local. Due to a slight misunderstanding/simple joke, my better half decided to place a present (small bag of the devils lettuce) in my bag before I headed to the city with two friends I was showing around. Not knowing this, I opened my bag and it stunk up the room (oops). Outside the window I could hear a female staff member whispering as if on the phone. Of course, having the bag stink like it did, I was instantly trying to bag it and pack it back up so it wouldn't stink and I could take it back and put it in the car. A second later I got a knock on the door by a male staff member who rolled his eyes at me and said "buddy, you can't smoke in the rooms" - so I explained the situation and I invited him in to look around and see that I had not smoked in the room. He refused to enter but I had the door fully open and he could see. I told him I was headed to the car anyways because of the concern, and he rolled his eyes again and let out a big huff and stormed off as if I had just hot-boxed the entire place. I get the point of the staffs annoyance as I'm sure they deal with it a fair bit, but after that, we went for a walk down the city streets then stopped to have a smoke half a block away in silence and in peace before heading back in to go to sleep (it'd been a long day, but was early). Two different staff members came out with walkie talkies and were speaking with someone inside while we stood there, well away from the property. We went in, straight to our room, and straight to sleep at around 8pm. The night was filled with loud music, people partying, and loud conversations, and the people next to us arrived at 1 am crashing and banging around. This, of course, is not to forget that the location is right next to the train tracks that have a VERY loud horn going about every half hour and until 1am..! So, upon waking up early for our packed day of travel and adventures (about 300km of driving - which is an all-day affair in Costa Rica), we gathered our stuff, had a shower, and when I went to my friend's room next to mine on the other side, one of the girls laughed literally once, and the neighbour that came in at 1am crashing and banging came by and didn't ask, but Told us we needed to keep it down (it was 7am).... Bad experience mostly due to mixed events, but I'll not stay there again. I've always loved backpackers around the world, but this one has unfriendly front-end staff that doesn't seem to want to host or act like they enjoy their jobs, and when we get targeted for simple things that are easily explainable and fixable and don't affect anyone else around us at all, but they ignore the party, noise, and neighbours arrival, and say nothing when the neighbour acts like a dick - then I figure, with that and the train - it's a had NO frome from now on - and I head to the city lots. Never had an issue before aside from the train through, so who knows.
