Naoshima hotels & places to stay

I was staying in Naoshima Backpackers for 2 nights. Because of the current global situation, I was the only one staying in the 15 person dorm room. Although expensive for the amount of space available, the facilities were great (although only one shower which could be difficult when more people are staying). I cooked using their kitchen and used the washer. The bar/communal area is a great touch, and the beds are basic but their are outlets in each bed area. The staff were helpful when offering advice on how much time to plan in each location, and when directing me to bike facilities. I was confused about the price of a nights stay as different prices were offered online and in my guide book. There is not a bike available with the stay (which I had read online somewhere) but there are bike rentals available 30 secs walk.

Our host went above and beyond her duties to ensure that we had a good time. We highly appreciated her good recommendations on the best art sites to visit in Naoshima and Teshima given that we only had a day in this area. We arrived around 3pm and it was clear that the slower pace on the island would mean that we cannot fit in too many art sites that day before closing time. However, our host offered to drive us to the first art site so that we could complete our ambitious itinerary to go to 2 museums and 1 art house. We could not otherwise have met the bus timings so well and achieved that. Apart from that, the guesthouse is clean and hospitable. We have to carry our luggage up a narrow walk-up staircase, but it is not a big issue given the spectacular benefits of Yado Seven Beach, i.e. it's great location to the ferry, an amazing coffee place, I Love Yu bathhouse, as well as the wonderful hospitality of the lady boss there. Like a quaint little cottage in the wood, this place excudes the vibe of Naoshima - a place with its own character and quirkiness. Getting to the place from Honmura Port was easy - 7 mins walk. The amenities available are sufficient for me - drinkable and hot water, bread for breakfast, towels, hairdryer and a comfortable room. It is easy to walk to some of the exhibitions and if you are at the other side of the island checking out the other museums, there is a public bus that will take you back to Honmura for ¥100! The staff are friendly and accomodating too! Will definitely come back. Thanks!

Absolutely amazing stay at episode 1 on naoshima island. Easy to access on the bus from miyanoura port (although note sometimes the bus can be quite full with little room for large luggage) and free bikes to cycle to the main spots - only a short ride away. The owners were absolutely lovely and let us check in early as well as leave our bags after checking out so we can tour the island before leaving. The place has plenty of space and was extremely clean. Five stars.

Check in time is 5pm but you can drop off your luggage before that. The apartment is in close proximity to a few cafes and restaurants. Just a 3mins walk to Hommura port. The room we were given was very spacious for our group of 5. You’ve got to set up your own tatami beds. Hot kettle is for sharing in the living room. Toilets and bath rooms are for sharing with other guests in the house as well. Overall it’s value for money if you’re just looking for a 1-2 night stay to explore the island. Perhaps prepare some food before hand as not many restaurants are open late and convenience stores close at 5pm. Make your dinner reservations in advance. The stay provides cup noodles for a charge of 150 yen.

Loved the Season 2- as advertised ! Spacious room & private shower & toilet! Owner was lovely, dropped us at the Benesse house bus stop. Didn’t give 5 stars for location- but the location was still ok, a bus stop a few doors down & 2 x restaurants open for dinner nearby. The best bet for breakfast is at the wright hotel a block away (i had forgotten this and we had to trapse across the island to Akito ? coffee house . A few cafes close by said open but intermittent & we walked there for nothing (pan & seven seas) Our highlight meal was at Cafe Salon Naku! Book a table - it didn’t disappoint- also booked the only cab on the island to take us back to Season 2. Beds were a bit stiff- as were all the beds we slept on in Japan- but i discovered more futons in the cupboard & layered them up. Thanks so much Season 2!!!

We paid the same for this room as we did for our room in Tokyo and I don't think it was worth the price, although admittedly everything on Naoshima is very expensive. The facilities in the room were good and the owners were very helpful in explaining everything to us. Everything was a little shabby though and one of the cushions on the floor was heavily stained. The beds are Japanese style and the mattresses were so thin it was like sleeping in the floor.

Had an amazing 3 night stay on Naoshima at this hotel. The room was huge compared to others we’ve stayed in. The location was also great because it was slightly outside the main area but still walking distance. Also a 2 minute walk to the bus station. The staff was also very kind and accommodating. The on site laundry was a bonus as well. Highly recommend! Oh also - the Okonomiyaki restaurant down the street is the BEST!
