"My friend and I missed the dinner (and so cannot review that) as we had difficulties reaching the area, travelling 10 hrs from Osaka to Nakanojo, arriving at the station after 9pm, which supports how incredibly extraordinary the staff at Shima Tamura really is. After 9pm there are no taxis, buses, or any kind of transport to the onsen asides from a 4 hour walk up. We found this out by attempting to pantomiming + trying our best to call for rides with incredibly poor Japanese and were eventually resigned to sleeping at the terminal as there were also no other hotels nearby (also a no go according to the station attendant). We were only saved by pure chance! Another hotel owner, coming to pick up their guests, happened to overhear our troubles and suggested (/ended up calling Shima Tamura for us; we are eternally grateful!!). The staff graciously came to pick us up. The rest of the night that we managed to enjoy was incredibly worthwhile."
