"After "roughing it" for a few nights at the base of Mt Yasur, staying at Alofa was like being in the lap of luxury with electricity and hot water! :-) You can see the beautiful white sand beach from the bungalow (good swimming area just a short walk down the beach) and the gardens around the grounds are beautifully maintained. Sam and Sabrina and their team took very good care of us in arranging tours, airport transfers, delicious meals and even sharing a few shells of kava! I would definitely recommend Alofa Beach Bungalows to anyone looking for a comfortable budget place to stay on Tanna. It is currently a cash only establishment and there are currently no ATMs on the island so make sure you take enough cash. If you're really strapped for cash, you can swipe your card at Whitegrass Ocean Resort where they'll charge a fee of 10% for the service."

"Tanna is an outer island of a third world country. With that in mind, white grass is the top place to stay. It is expensive, but it does have 24 hour electricity and hot water, private bathrooms, and is located walking distance to snorkeling at blue hole 1 and 2 and turtle reef, and very close to the airport with free transfers."

"We stayed for 2 nights in 2 bungalows (older teens had their own bungalow). The location is amazing and the authentically built bungalows are small but all that you need. Breakfast was simple but ample amounts of bread, spreads and fruit. Only tea offered with coffee an extra cost :( The bar and kitchen have limited choice but good for at least one of your nights stay. The second night we walked 15 minutes up the road to the very expensive but with more food and drink options White Grass Resort. Rocky Ridge hosts provide many well priced tour options, and we went on the Blue Cave boat expedition (fabulous). We didn't snorkel the Blue Hole (right in front of resort) as waves were a little rough, but we had also just done a week worth of snorkelling in Santo so weren't as eager. Overall I would recommend Rocky Ridge Bungalows as a well priced and good level accommodation on Tanna, keeping in mind that Tanna is quite remote and only just becoming used to tourism."
