Kampot hotels & places to stay

I had a good stay at the Thansur Bokor resort. I had been in Cambodia for three weeks and I was ready to go somewhere to cool off. This is the only hotel up on the plateau near the old French Bokor hill station, where it's cool enough to wear long pants at night. My room was very nice, the staff was great and welcoming, and the food was good, both the breakfast and lunch buffets and the a la carte dinner I had. The occupancy rate was very low the night I was there so the hotel had an empty feel, but that certainly wasn't a problem. There is a casino but I didn't go in there. The views down to the sea from the nearby Buddhist wat and the old cliffside hotel a pleasant 20 minute walk from the hotel were great. Giant Ibis bus company is supposed to have regular service on the 40 minute run up to the hotel from Kampot, but it turned out not to be running--I managed to get there, though. Just be sure you know you can get there before you book the room.

Very pleasant, restful and refreshing. Started four years ago. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and easy. Dutch hospitality from the owner, his lovely Cambodian companion and his two sons. People are friendly and helpful, but leave you alone when you are not in the mood for social talk. The high-ceilinged room was basic but good (room cleaned and bed made / fresh towels every day), with wooden floor and solid furniture. The big bed was comfortable. An indoor (working) table and chair would be an extra asset. However, it was good working in the big TV-room (huge flatscreen, lots of dvd's to choose from) with open doors. The bathroom is big and well-provided. The (electric) shower, however, could use a check-up. The wifi is excellent, both in the rooms and the public places. Also the airco functions well. The upholstery in the public places could use an update here and there. I rented a scooter to have a look at Kampot town (10 minutes away) and a kayak to experience the stillness and beauty of the wide river. They make good cocktails - and excellent French fries, the best I tasted in Cambodia! I had a few interesting talks from the heart with Hans and enjoyed the silent caring. Thank you for building this lovely place. I spent three very pleasant days with you.

This was the second/remaining hotel booked in Kampot. My fiancée and I were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The prior night we stayed at a Resort/Coral Bay hotel, that hotel was a completely opposite of this Hotel FIve S. The staff, Kosal, at Five S was very friendly with excellent customer service. He greeted us, provided a welcome drink and explained the area to us (even though my fiancée is Khmer). He carried our bags up three flight of stairs and when we entered the room, there was a very nice decorative message on the bed with local flowers. The room was super clean, spacious and decorated very well. When I asked if he could get a moto rental, he had one at the hotel at the time specified. The breakfast options were very good, Asian or Western style. Overall, it was exceptional hotel in my perspective and I have stayed at several 3-4 stars in Cambodia, this one will be on list when I go back to Kampot. The other hotel not so and although I would like to write a review on that one, I won't since its owned by a Cambodian official. Would I stay and recommend Hotel Five S, the answer is a positive YES.

Just stayed here for a weekend during low season with my girlfriend. It's one of the most expensive hotels in Kampot but it was worth the money. We stayed in the premium room on the 5th floor and it was very well done. There were windows on three sides of the room and a small balcony which gave wonderful views of Bokur Mountain. The bathroom was spotless and well designed, and the bed was the most comfortable that I've ever slept in a hotel in Cambodia. The breakfast menu had many choices and the food was first rate. We ate one night in the rooftop bar/restaurant and it was fine but I prefer to eat in the restaurants along the river. Staff was friendly and attentive but patience is required as their English skills are still developing. A very nice hotel. Pricey by Kampot standards but, again, worth the money in my opinion.

We are a group of 7 with booking of 3 rooms at MAKK hotel for two nights. The hotel is well located with kampot river across the road, you can just sit comfortably in the hotel rest area with a cup of coffee enjoying kampot river's sunset view. Rooms are of good size, clean and nicely decorated. Facilities are adequate with wifi works well throughout. We took day tours arranged by the hotel, which were all fine. The sunset cruise tour in particular should not be missed. Mr Jimmy the hotel host has been very helpful and responsive to all our emails / queries before our stay. He even took the initiation to call us and our next check in hotel in sihanoukville after he found out we have left behind a handphone after we have checked out from MAKK. Then he made extra effort to coordinate with our Sihanoukville hotel to send the handphone to us with no extra charge. Throughout the process, we were not disturbed at all. Truly we were amazed by this special service offered by this small hotel in kampot. Will surely recommend this hotel to all. Most importantly, room price is very reasonable!

Good value accommodation in a great location in Kampot town, 1 block from the river and lots of restaurants and cafes around. Large comfortable room, relatively basic facilities but good for the price, and the pool is a real bonus - quite small but great to have a chance for a dip, not many hotels in Kampot have pools. Staff were helpful and sorted out a couple of issues very promptly and efficiently.

My stay was superb. I had some work to do, and it was the perfect place to relax and get it done. The hotel's location is ideal. I ventured into busier part of town for dinner one night and was a bit disappointed with the food and by the ambiance. It was touristy and loud, compared to my serene spot with excellent food. I did enjoy the sunset river cruise and the women's spa, which is the best spa experience I've had in my life, and of course a fraction of the cost in the US. I was originally concerned after reading some negative reviews about the staff's attitude but I immediately found I had nothing to worry about. In researching Kampot, I was drawn to it's quiet and relaxed reputation. The staff at Nature Bungalows simply mirror that type of environment. I recently stay at a $475/night beautiful property in Thailand and while it was lovely, the staff was almost too attentive, and I found myself wishing THEY would relax a bit. So I was perfectly fine with the relaxed staff at Nature Bungalows and felt "their way" added, rather than detracted from the experience.

This was our first stay at The Columns Hotel but certainly will not be the last. Hotel is tastefully decorated, rooms are comfortable, breakfast is great, staff are attentive. By far the best Khmer managed hotel I have ever stayed in and will certainly stay again on our next visit to Kampot. We only stayed here by chance as our regular 'choices' were booked out but I rate this in the top 3 Kampot hotels on par with Rikitikitavi and La Java Blu

My girlfriend and I traveled through Cambodia for a month through Siem Reap, Battambang, Sihanoukville and Kampot. Mea Culpa is by far the best accommodations we've stayed at. Their service here stands out more than other accommodations. We were greeted with a smile every time we speak with them. The area of the hotel is very relaxing. Great for just sitting and having a drink. The general area is quiet at night and the guests who choose to stay here are generally quiet as well. They give you free bike for use which allows you to get to the city center within 5 minutes. Tour booking through them was simple and easy. They also have great recommendations on which tour to do and cheap places to get a haircut. I can recommend this accommodation to anyone and we will definitely return!

This hotel has 6 rooms in front of a grassed area, a nice outdoors pool and a restaurant. The owner and chef are both very friendly and are always available to help you to visit the area. It is a short 5 minutes walk to the main area on Kampot and that is perfect as you can walk by the river to get there and get a great view. The nice thing about it too is that it is a quiet area. Renting a motorbike or scooter you get the freedom of being able to get to the mountain, Kep, pepper plantations etc. The rooms are modern and clean. They have both a ceiling fan and aircon, in-room safe and all the amenities. Knowing that this area of Cambodia can be dusty and hot coming back to the hotel having a good shower in a great bathroom and making it to the pool after is a great comfort. The food is very good too. Will go back again for sure.

We took a risk with this booking as there were no reviews, and so glad we did. This is a brand new small place with several bungalows. We stayed directly on the river front. Bathroom was clean with a good shower. Bed was clean and comfortable. Not a vast amount of space but enough for us. Lovely small decking area to chill on the river, with your own steps leading down ready for a dip. Staff were just super friendly and helpful. Fantastic English guy cooking meals too, would highly recommend eating here. You must expect some noise in the evening as these huts are close to the eating/drinking area and there's lots of other back packer kind of accommodation on the same stretch of river. If you hire a ped you are two minutes away from the town centre, plenty of places to eat. This is our second visit to Kampot as we love it for a short stay on our travels. We had an absolutely fantastic stay in the twin home guesthouse. We enjoyed our stay and Kampot so much that we extended from 1 night to 6 nights. The room was exactly as advertised-TVwith many channels, wifi, clean shower with hot water and good pressure, fantastic aircon. The room was spotless clean and well maintained. The room is a bit smaller but out is exactly as pictured in photos and to be expected for the price you pay. We didn't mind at all and absolutely enjoyed our stay there for many days. The staff were absolutely lovely and helped us out with anything we needed. The hotel is located right at the river among many restaurants. The restaurant next door had coffee for 50 and fantastic breakfast so we didn't have to go far in the morning.

We booked this as a last minute option as our plans changed, it is good value for money and in a good location, with a lovely swimming pool. The rooms are brand new and comfortable with nice balconies. However the hotel is a bit of a strange place, the regular guests seem to be mostly "sexpats" and their treatment of the girls who work there was pretty embarrasing. The hotel seems to have been a little forgotten about and only part finished in parts, the pool is lovely but the loungers have no pillows, things are unfinished in some rooms etc. An okay place but if booking more in advance there are better places in Kampot.

A very nice hotel, newly built and tastefully decorated, complete with blue buddha statue and goldfish pond in the garden. The rooms are huge, so large you could have yoga classes inside of them. For this price range you will not find a better hotel in Kampot. One of the guys working at reception, his name is Wat, was very kind to take me on his scooter early one morning up to Bokor Hill Station. I paid him $25USD and it was money so well spent, he was so considerate and kind. We got there before any other tourists started to arrive and the ride up the mountain is sensational. The Cambodian staff working here are so friendly and helpful and I was sad to leave. A small tip: If you slip one of their business cards into the key card slot inside your room when you go out it will keep your fridge running. There is also a huge western style supermarket just across the road on the other side of the roundabout and the river is only a five minute walk. I highly recommend the Blue Buddha hotel.

Champa Lodge offers one of the best lodging experiences in Cambodia, particularly for those that love nature and quiet settings. It's location a short distance from Kampot - down a road that is now 90% paved - is ideal, as town is still very accessible via a short moto, bicycle, or tuk-tuk ride, while the Lodge itself is tucked away in a quiet river bend. The owner and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The location offers great choices for activities - kayaking or other river conveyances, swimming, riding around the nearby red dirt roads, taking day trips to Bokor Mountain, Kep, pepper plantations, and much more. On the other hand, I appreciated Champa's excellent rooms and available food and services, allowing me to while away a few quiet afternoons on a deck overlooking green rice fields and jungle forest, sipping nice fruit juices or Belgian beers while working quietly on my own pursuits. Champa Lodge is a special place, at a great value, for those looking to get away.

Living in Phnom Penh can be exhausting from street traffic and pile of trash everywhere, and not too much fresh breeze. Being in Kampot for the purpose of relaxing by the ocean. We are a couple with our motobike (we rode the train with our motobike from Phnom Penh to Kampot). The location of My Parents Guesthouse is about 10min walk from train. Less than 10min by moto. But guesthouse not in central city of Kampot near market or the oceanwalk. Location is convenience for our moto parking and has big space to park more moto, cars, bike. Entrance and exit space is not right on the street, so it's even nicer to feel like a comfortable open space. Pay $7 per night for one full bedroom with a fan with tv, hot shower. Room was clean with new towels and waters always refill daily. Staffs friendly and helpful. Facilities, great for relaxing has many seating area and guesthouse has kitchen and fridge. It a build -in restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drink time. Great place, services, and good deal for $7.

We loved Good Morning Kampot, after staying in some not so clean places without hot water for a while it was a nice change to find a clean, spacious room. The staff are very friendly, even the owner of the hotel came to speak to us in the rooftop bar. The location is great it’s right on the river front and close to the town centre. You can watch the sunset from the rooftop bar. We were given a voucher for a free beer each but we liked it so much up there we stayed all night. Food wasn’t excellent too. The restaurant downstairs is also good and they make a great breakfast burrito with hash brown. I have to say while we were there there was a stand in chef for one day who I think was a better cook than the usual chef! Definitely good value for money we couldn’t believe we only paid $10 dollars for a double room. Can’t recommend this place enough! Only negative was the bedsheet had some stains on but the gave us a fresh one no problem.

We stayed here for 3 nights towards the end of our trip, really wished we could stay for longer. Kampot is such a nice town, Sabay beach was about 1.5km out of town on a bumpy road. The facilities are awesome, we stayed in the beach bungalow, overlooking the river. They had a cool restaurant which was kind of a treehouse, had amazing views overlooking the river. The breakfast (we had the healthy breakfast each morning) was probably the best we had in cambodia. The staff were all so friendly and attentive, made us feel very at home. We hired a motorbike for one of the days through the hotel, made it much easier to explore in and around kampot- very cheap only $6 US whole day. Overall we loved our stay here- wished we could have stayed longer!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 1 night stay and would have been happy to stay longer. Cedric the host was excellent and extremely helpful and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was fabulous. We stayed in the family room in the loft which was very spacious, extremely clean and perfect for our family. It was also excellent value for money. We woukd highly recommed auberge de soleil for anyone sishing to stay in kampot.
