Traveling to Japan? Find Atami hotels

We are in Japan for 3 months and I doubt we will find a better place to stay. The property itself is historically interesting and in a great location - about 6 minutes walk from the train and bus station, 2 blocks from the waterfront and very close to restaurants, supermarkets (we thought that Max was best) and shopping areas. The hostel is immaculately clean and well maintained. Staff are generous with their time and local knowledge. English proficiency was a help but we heard all sorts of languages spoken. We had booked a river view room with ensuite (toilet and wash basin) and shared a private shower just down the hallway. The common areas, kitchen and sitting rooms are great places to interact with and learn from other travellers. Don't forget the in-house Onsen which is included in the accommodation cost. It was rarely used, marvellously hot, well organised. You will need to "hire" a towel and wash cloth but cheap. We are well travelled but this is one of a kind. We recommend it highly

Despite this hostel is on the top of a hill some meter away from the town center, it's worth the effort to climb the hill. It has wonderful views of Itō town and Omuroyama mountain. the cleanness, the friendly staff, the private onsen and its prices make this place a paradise for low budget travellers. I would say it's the best place to explore Izu peninsula and enjoy its hot springs.

Location is 5-10 minutes walk from station. Location is opposite an izakaya which serves great ramen, korean food and live fish. 5 mins drive to nearby onsen which has an outdoor onsen with has superb sea and mountain view(Akazawa). The owner gave me a ride there. The owner was also super helpful in assisting with my needs, that was to find a dive guide on the day of check out. He also provided transport to the dive shop. Check in was smooth and payment on check out. Yukata and all amenities are provided. Room was perfect and cosy and was one of my best stays in Japan. Had a tub in the showering room but for those who want to visit a bigger onsen, they have discounts for a beautiful one nearby. All staffs were very friendly and helpful.

My boyfriend and I wanted to take a quick weekend motorcycle ride to get out of the city. I booked this hotel for the price, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The view from the 2nd floor was gorgeous. The bath was open air and had a lock so it could be used privately. The room was very clean nd very big for Japan. The fact that it had a full kitchen would have been convenient if we were staying more than one night. The staff was very nice and friendly, but spoke zero English so if you don't speak Japanese have a translator book handy. Downside was that it was a bit difficult to find and google maps got confused (but it being off the main drag makes it much more relaxing and private). If you're looking for 5 star luxury, this probably isn't for you. If you want a comfortable home away from home, then I would recommend this place in a hearbeat, we loved it.

Traditional Japanese style for aptment hotel. Location is close to the seaside but considering the uphill road not that smart choice when you leave the hotel to the JR station. I took a taxi to the Atami Station when leaving as the uphill road is really challenging with the rain. Staff are friendly and helpful, one guy who speaks English helped me to call a taxi that day.Appreciate! Private bath is the lightspot so as the roast fish for breakfast. BTW, the self-made milk is good! However, the bed make up is confusing for foreigners and no one come to clean the next day. Disappointed about that. Anyway, will consider to stay again in the future ! Thank you guys!

fine - we spent 15 minutes trying to find it - the phone number was not registered to our Japanese car GPS - so we asked a couple of locals, showing them a picture of the hotel, before we finally found it - over the road from the larger hotel we were just about to ask. About 100m down the road we enjoyed a yakitori dinner at a place recommended by the desk clerk - not the best I've ever had - but nice and satisfying - and a short stroll back to the hotel.

I think it's new hotel...All well furnished and complete amenities (microwave, water heater, fridge, even electricity sockets etc). Nice room, spacy room, super clean, and love the bathroom!!! However, the hotel is quite small, not recommended for traveller with baggage because no elevator and the stairs is steep. The bedroom is okay. The location is near with destinations and beach. Just by walking distance! Overall, it's value for money!!

We booked this one just a few days before we arrived, so we are kind of lack of information about Atami When we found this lovely city requires driving, we just came downstairs and asked Fujii san to help us for a car rental. He kept trying calling around 5 companies even we felt sorry for bothering him and already given up for a while, suddenly he said he made it and arranged all the process we need, that is a huge help for the random traveler like us. Except for the nice stuff, this hostel arranged for us a nice view room with big window, free and delicious breakfast, home-made style, fresh melon only for that day（how lucky we are!!）Tiny but cute onsen which relieve my stress off, really good for sleep tight. Acutally, I promise i ll visit it again when i come to atami.

We were 3 Americans who had never stayed in a ryokan before, but were looking for that Japanese experience. This hotel exceeded our expectations! Our room had a large tatami area with futons, and also a sitting area with big windows and a great views over the town. There was a full bathroom inside our room, as well as the showers in the onsen. The option of 3 private onsen is nice for people who are more shy or have tattoos. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet had many options including scrambled eggs and pastries as well as Japanese salads and soup. The location is easy to reach from the train station- leaving the station you just follow the street to the right and then as you cross over a small canal, turn left, then right again at the very next street (in front of a fancy hotel). After that, Hotel Daitoukan is up on the right as the street ends.

The hotel is within walking distance from Atami Station, which has a lot of shops in the surrounding. It has a carpark and the parking rate is quite cheap, which is good as I rented a car from Tokyo and drove to Atami. Room is a bit dated, but is clean and everything inside is of good quality. The design of the bed is quite smart, it has a empty bottom so that you can store your large suitcases underneath. Staff are very helpful even though most have very limited English ability, breakfast is included and is decent. This is definitely a good choice if you don't mind paying a bit more than a budget hotel.

If you travel from Atami by car the hotel is on the right side in the National Highway route 135, which is located almost a kilometer before the Izu-Kogen station. If you travel by train you can give a call to the hotel and request the owner to pick you up from the Izu-Kogen Station. The hot bath at hotel after a tired day was very pleasant. Though I have booked the hotel for a night stay with breakfast, the owner was kind enough to offer a shot of alcohol and a light dinner. The room was a Japanese style room and very old. But the linen sheets and towels are freshly provided. I am a vegetarian and was wondering whether I can eat anything available at that small hotel. But the owner took efforts to get me some vegetable salad, cornflakes and milk, bread and tea and some fruit yogurt good enough for a breakfast. I recommend this hotel for someone who travels to enjoy a city break visit with a limited budget.

It is a decent size ryokan with excellent services and cleanliness. The location of the ryokan is about 20 minutes drive from Atami station, it might sounds far but you will get the best of the serenity and sunrise view from the ryokan overlooking the ocean. They have scheduled transportation to the station, which make it convenience. Breakfast was spectacular, traditional Japanese meal, totally surprised me for the price I have paid for my room. Will definitely pay another visit.

We came to Kawana station late, then the only means to transport us to the hotel is by taxi since hotel doesn't provide shuttle service. But it doesn't big matter since the taxi counter is right in front of the station's exit, and with one phone call the operator will send us taxi rightaway. The hotel itself is one kind of resort locating near seashore with a great view of mountain and sea as well. We're impressed by the hospitality of the receptionist because he hardly able to speak english very well but reaallly tried hard to inform us everything about the hotel facilities. The room itself was quite big and clean with (I must say) complete series of face and body amenities. Overall it was a very comfortable stay and thank you for the hospitality.

The hotel service is good and the hot spring is good. The dinner is delicious and the breakfast is very great. Two things that are not satisfying are the location and the bathroom in the room. The free shuttle bus is only available from 2pm and it's only for go to the hotel from Ito station. If you would like to go out from the hotel, you need to find your own way to leave. It's a bit far if you walk. For the room, the toilet and bathroom are a bit old, though we haven't used the bathroom since we took shower in the hot spring area. The price which includes a night and 2 meals is actually reasonable and it's worth coming on the whole.

I have chosen this hotel because it is near to the JR station. My plane was like spending 2-3 nights in Shizuoka for various reasons. Atami is famous for its hot springs, but please do not expect anything from this hotel! Honestly, the hot spring is not good, and it is quite old and feeling not-so-clean. I spent another luxurious night in another hot spring small hotel in Atami and moved to this Kanichi at the 2nd night. The hot spring is not comparable of course. Yet, the food (dinner) are still nice, and the room is expectedly big (enough for 4 persons). The location is fairly good, around 10 minutes walking distance from Atami station, but it is like a ascending slope, so if you were walking with your suitcase, expect to use some strength. The staff are nice, but when I check out, the lady wanted to charge me again…although I have already paid.

The location is difficult to get to if u r not driving. Check in was easy n the staff is friendly. The onsen they have was nice n quiet. But be careful not to go into the wrong onsen. One is for men n another ladies. There is no signs or english wordings for a foreigner. The apartment is rather old and out dated but clean. There is a full kitchen, seperate bath and toilet, a bed room with 2 single beds, 2 other rooms for 4 tatami mats. The surrounding area is relaxing n beautiful. The staff are nice n friendly as expected. Would return if im in town again.

The best word to describe my experience in staying at Yokikan was "Excellent!" Yokikan is just a short walk from the heart of downtown Ito, but since I had been traveling much of the day to get to Ito I took a cab from Ito Station to the Ryokan. The front desk immediately reimbursed me for the cab! Multiple staff greeted me by name at the front door and the assistant GM explained the Onsen and traditional Ryokan aspects of the property as part of the check-in process. My room (205) was huge and had a view back into town. On entering the room a nice staff lady came by and served me hot tea and a sweet and refreshing dessert treat! Wow!! The room was a traditional tatami mat room, with table and pillowed floor seat as well as a 'deck' area with two comfortable chairs and a small table. After dinnertime a staff member came by and setup my futon bed -- super comfortable and great warm comforter. The room also had a restroom, modern AC/heater, TV, fridge and tea as well as towels and yukata for in-room and onsen use. The two indoor onsens were nice, but the outdoor one was fantastic! To get to it you either walked up a huge number of steps or, as I did, took a really cool funicular "up the mountain" to get to the onsen. Great views from the onsen (hot spring) back into Ito. My room came with breakfast and dinner served in-room. Both were what I would call terrific multi-course Japanese "delicacy" eating, Amazing fresh seafood, veggies, miso, and other Japanese treats that will put an ear-to-ear grin on the face of any fellow foodies out there! The general manager, Akihisi Inaba and his wife both went out of their way to speak with me and he gave me some excellent suggestions for things to see in the area. The Ryokan has been in his family for 5 generations and the beauty and elegance of the place was really a highlight of my time in Japan. I cannot speak more highly of the experience I had at Yokikan -- it was just Excellent.
