d Omah Hotel Yogya

"yogyakarta is known as the centre of art and culture in java. we found all of it in a single place, wrapped in a package called hotel d'omah run but a man called warrick purser. not enough can be said about this garden of eden.  this isn't just a hotel. it is a living breathing village that just happens to take in guests.  with warricks personal touch we believe this hotel is one of our favorite  five star hotels at much less than standard five star prices.  lived in a little village called tembi south of yogyakarta for 15 years where he founded his business 'out of asia' which exports the work of yogyakarta's artists to the world. in 2006 the village was leveled by a massive earthquake which damaged much of yogyakarta including warrick's home. instead of pulling the plug warrick decided to utilize the remains of many of the village houses (principally the housing joists and carved wooden doors) to build a hotel styled on the theme  of a javanese village with each room showing some of the unique character of the area. with new walls and modern conveniences (beautiful open air but under cover bathrooms) each set of rooms at the d'omah has a wonderfully old style javanese feel with modern conveniences, their own beautifully set out and comfortable lounging areas and pool. the amenities are meticulously planned, rooms come with ear plugs for the local mosques, mozzie spray, international  adaptors, emergency lamps and ours had its own aviary.  the hotel is full of magnificent pieces of art that we wanted to take home (if our house was big enough). this hotel felt like the indonesian home we have always wanted and the staff made us feel exceptionally welcome and met out every request (some we haddn'te named) with a smile. the really impressive bit however is engagement with the tembi village. to bring money into the decimated village has funded a number of micro-credit projects (i believe 16) whose businesses he then supports (guest laundry "

Yabbiekayu Eco-Bungalows

"If you want to have a quiet place and enjoy kampong style in jogja with reasonable price this is the place. Stayed for 3 night with my wife, we really enjoyed the wood bungalow, the design, layout etc especially the outdoor bath. Verdict Location; 30 minutes from downtown jogja but splendid if you want to explore the outer ring of jogja like bantul. The bungalow; love it no AC no TV but we got the retreat feelings. The staff; super helpful and friendly. Suggested activities Visit kasongan find some art and home decor Go south to gunung kidul or north east to sleman Massage in the bungalow, reasonable price. Enjoy the bamboo viewing point in the morning. Ask the staff for everything."

The Wayang Homestay
Bantul,Bantul - View on map
"We are family of 4, with children age 4 & 7. We booked for 2 days as we don't know how it will be. We requested to be picked up, and even when our flight was late, the driver is still there waiting. We booked family room, which turned out to be really spacious (more than we expected), even with our 8 luggages. Room is well air-con, hot water (which is important for my fussy girls) and of course, the telly. Mas Jack, mbak Widi, mas Frisda (tanpa Yanti....:) peace mas....)dan Ibu Rika were all very friendly and helpful. The service is superb. Tried to book few more days but they were all booked. But we did came back to this Homestay at the end of our trip for another 3 nights. Definately this Homestay is our favourite, and we surely will stay here again on our next holiday !!! Terima kasih semua staff and owner Wayang Homestay....we are a very satisfied customer !!!"

Omah Tembi Homestay
Bantul,Bantul - View on map
"We stayed at the Omah Tembi Homestay for a week in July. The setting along the eastern edge of Tembi Village is beautiful, and we saw lovely sunrises over the rice fields each morning after being awakened by the roosters. We enjoyed walking through Tembi Village and the surrounding area. The hotel is approximately a 30-minute (50-70,000 IDR) taxi ride from central Yogyakarta. While our stay was excellent overall, there are several things to note: We had booked both a "standard cottage" and a "standard super bungalow," but there did not appear to be any actual difference between the two in terms of size or comfort. The breakfast was free and promptly served, but lacked variety and flavor. Finally, the front desk staff were very nice young ladies, but were not at all helpful in providing information. We had much better luck walking down the road to the D'Omah Hotel Yogya to request taxis and find out directions."

Puri Minggiran Guesthouse Yogya
Bantul,Bantul - View on map
"I arrived In Yogyakarta at another hotel. It was awful. After a couple hours of frustration I found this place on Agoda and booked it. I took a meter taxi near by, and walked around. It is hard to find. If you go past normal business hours it will be very tough. The night security did not speak any English and could not direct me over the phone. He also couldn't check me in properly once I found it. But after 15 minutes I was set. Probably the most comfortable bed in Indo so far. Acceptable wifi, very hot water, and amazing customer service. For $13 it was a steal. I stayed three nights. Since I checked in so late I slept in. When I woke up, Yusuf offered to show me around. I didn't go to those stupid temples at something like 250k rupiah a pop. Yusuf showed me all the local food. Over the course of two days (maybe 13 hours) we tasted and tried over 30 plates of food. All the local specialties. He drove the motorbike and I helped look up places on my google maps. He helped me find local made bathtub Arrack, buy mangosteens... I wanted for nothing. Yogyakarta is a great relaxing little spot and was a delight after the hustle and bustle of Jakarta. Stay here, rent a motorbike, and enjoy!"

Villa Bougenville
Bantul,Bantul - View on map
"It's really hard t find 2 x bedroom accommodation in Yogya, so we opted to take the 2 x bedroom Villa with its secure and private with a lockable gate in front. Not exactly as clean as we would hope for, however we have to consider that the common area and kitchen is "al fresco style" The owner and staff are all wonderfully friendly and helpfull. The included has a reasonable collection large servings that we couldn't finish and good taste. All in all a great weekend and stay. Value for money is fair given that as a family of 3 x our son had his own room, TV, internet and shower upstairs & one has to compare this with 2 x hotel rooms in terms of pricing. Parking is not so easy as tiny jalan ticus but we did get our larger sized car inside. Location is great and walking distance to the Mediteranea French Resteraunt 300 metres away, where the food, bread and bakery are magnificent and the prices so cheap that we simply could not believe Would stay there again anytime.
