Amed hotels & places to stay

Giles and Chris January 2106 We are very lucky to have been able to travel to many countries in every continent and this is the first time that we felt we were obliged to leave a review of our experience . The reason ? Because Villa Bukit Segara deserves it . Winding down the drive towards the villa the staff working in the gardens jumped from what they were doing to welcome us with big smiles and waves, genuinely happy to see us and that was the theme from the start of our stay to our departure . So , written virtual tour ? Walk past the kitchen , you hardly notice it as your eyes are drawn to the expanse of ocean right in front of you , onto the covered dining area with great furniture to lounge on if you want . If you don't stop eyeballing the view you have a good chance of ending up in the pool which is no bad thing at all. Our rooms were immaculate , a lovely open sitting room overlooking the gardens and sea with a built in Balinese seat to just sit and watch the ocean. Massive bedroom , walkway to dressing room and bathroom , must admit I got lost in the bathroom one night , too much wine , too much space and too many doors! We booked originally for four nights and then planned to move down the coast to Sanur which we did . Although we had booked and paid for the villa in Sanur the next morning I was on the phone to Putu the next morning to see if we could be collected and bless him , three hours later he picked us up and back we went to spend the rest of our holiday , best thing we did ! We normally like to visit as many different restaurants wherever we go but on this occasion we dined out only once and that was because Sery is one of the most accomplished cooks we have ever found . The menu was not vast , always a good sign in our experience , but encompassed all the delights of Balinese cuisine with her own additions which made dining a real pleasure.

we got her by hazard as our reserved hotel couldn't provide our room. must admit: lucky us! Villa Sky Dancers paid out to be the best place in Amed as its a new built private villa with actually only three rooms the whole facility is very well managed and maintained in a top status, spotlessly clean! we enjoyed a very warm and friendly service by the owner himself and his excellent staff. we were treated as V.I.P.s from the very beginning: welcome drink on our sea view terrace, individually prepared meals on the roof terrace in the evenings (you choose your favorit dish in the morning, then the chef is buying evth. freh on the market or by the fishermen in the neighbourhood!) and also a very good breakfast whereever you want (room terrace(s), roof terrace, salon area inbetween,...). rent a scooter: ask the owner (50.000 IDR) need laundry: ask the owner (best price!) wanna go snorkeling: ask the owner wanna go out with the fishermen for sunrise or sunset: ...guess what? of course the owner has a buddy providing you this experience! and if you just wanna enjoy yourself by the pool or beach: don't hesitate as they are leaving you alone as you like it! therefore: book immediately to get a perfect Amed experience

After 35 trips to Bali and having run Hotels for 15 years in my career, I think I am well qualified to give a review that others should take note of....the Bali Bhuana Beach Hotel is a nice Hotel with good amenities (for Bali) in the Lovely diving town of Amed. The Pool (beachfront), whilst small was refreshing and well planned, with sun lounges and a Bule nearby for those that just want to relax. Direct beach access and the fishing village of Amed on your doorstep are a nice touch and sunrise from the foreshore is worth getting up for. The breakfast was good with a generous selection of fruits and the usual omlettes, etc available included. The rooms are larger with Good A/c and a pleasant smaller bathroom. In room safe also adds to sense of security. The staff are attentive and genuinely seem to be concerned if you are enjoying your stay. Although we were there in low season when many hotels had no-one in house, Bali Bhuana still had a reasonable number of guests showing its overall popularity and repeat business. Personally, unless you get a really good deal, I don't think there is much difference room standard wise between the normal rooms (ask for a downstairs room if possible) and the Bungalows...not enough to justify the extra money unless you really don't want to disturb anybody else (maybe you are both "screamers in the bedroom")and require a free-standing room of your own. Perhaps , see if you can negotiate an upgrade on arrival instead, but I am sure you will be most pleased with the rooms and beds, etc and large balcony area that you get anyway. Security is good and restaurant is fresh and OK. A Must is to wander down the beach to Warung (Cafe) Indah....Franky and his family will serve you some of the best fish you'll eat anywhere in Bali (the Mahi Mahi steaks are great but the local Bonita Tuna are also tasty) they serve good safe Arak and will entertain and serenade you all for a few dollars more than some of the cheaper places...an absolute must visi

Pros- the landscaping and pool area is beautiful. The beach is nice. The breakfast is hearty and quite good. The staff is amazing. Very friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfy. Cons - right across from a party hotel, if you stay in room 1 it's all you can hear. If you stay in one of the rooms more central in the resort it should be fine. Room 1 had a terrible smell in it. I think perhaps from the fridge being unplugged when not in use. The room smelled very damp and musty. All in all the resort is quite nice but I would never pay more the 400,000 Indonesian rupiah maximum. There are much nicer places closer to the centre of Amed.

There are few luxury, spacious and well equipped villas with private swimming pool. Apart of that you have common big panorama swimming pool, gourmet restaurant, spa and more. Our few days stay was perfect (March 2017). There were some noises caused by next villa construction works but it was not very annoying. Lack of TV set in the villas may be problematic for some quests (not for us). The hotel is located in a very remote area and last mile road is exremely bumpy. The internet was not very stabile but generally works well. In summary the hotel deserves 5 stars and I can easily reccomend it for everyone who is looking for relax in luxury and silence.

We traveled to Amed from Tulamben. We were pleasantly surprised by the area and resort. Its a ways up the coast of Amed away from the more populated and crowded areas of Amed but that was part of the charm for us. Resort was beautiful, room was spacious, so was the bathroom and the exterior had a beautiful setup including tables and chairs and a huge bed to lounge and enjoy the splendid view. Restaurant was good but sometimes did not have some of the items listed on the menu. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We dove with their dive shop and were very happy with Nick and his crew. They had very knowledgeable dive masters and provided us with great diving sites every day but were a little short on gear. Most of their gear was old and they could benefit from some new gear but we brought all of our own dive gear. We did have an issue with my husband BCD and they tried to repair the BCD and lent us one of their own. I really like the Baliku and I would stay again but be advised, your room comes with a great view but their are many, many stairs to climb every day in order to get to your room and the view. Also, you need water shoes or dive boots as the beaches have a lot of stones and can be extremely harsh on your feet.

It was my first time go to Amed and I am so so lucky booked Bedulu Resort. With a price of "two star" hotel, I booked the superior room and I got a "five star" private villa uphill just behind the infinity pool. The view from the pool is so beautiful. I even didnt go anywhere in Amed, just stayed at Bedulu to enjoy the scenery. You can see both sunrise and sunset from the pool. I think I like Amed simply because of the resort. Thank you Bedulu, will definitely come back.

It was our first time, visiting Amed. We booked the beach front villa at Tradisi. It was a great choice. Looking straight out over the water from our room, watching the fishing boats come and go. Very quiet and peaceful. Great spot to view the sunset behind Mt Agung and also the sunrise across the water. The staff were all lovely. Kare also gave my husband some cold fresh aloe Vera for his sunburn. Restaurant is simple but adequate. We particularly enjoyed the vegetable omelette for breakfast and the Special fried rice (Nasi goreng). Tv was only Indonesian channels but, that didn’t worry us. The only thing I would have liked would have been a jug for boiling water, as I like to make my own coffee. I would definitely return to this hotel

We booked 2 rooms for 10 nights but stayed for 7, Iv got a disability so spend a lot of time in my room, having no TV to fill some of the hours I got really board, my husband and granddaughter were fine ... the rooms are fairly large with white tiled floors, they were built about 3 years ago and there are another 2 being built now, the rooms are made from recycled timbers, large windows in 3 sides so plenty if light, the bed was large but fairly old, no way was that only 3 years it was very flat, a memory foam topper may help, the AC wasn't very cold, they had a man come and clean the filters on both, glass windows on 3 walls would overwork any AC ... Bathrooms, ours had no thing on the wall to hold the shower head, my drandaughters had no showerhead just the hose up there lol ... Cleaning was done daily and the staff were lovely as is Made the manager. The pool is lovely, breaky average but ample, right on the beach not far from warungs, big veranda with table, chairs and a day bed

Apa Kabar is a little corner of paradise. Tucked away between the ocean and lush tropical mountains, away from the hussle and bustle, you come to Amed for the relaxation and to Apa Kabar for the tranquil surroundings, the beautiful settings and super friendly staff. The two bedroom villa was perfect for us as we travel with a 2 and 6 year old. It comes with balinese-style furnished and airconed bedrooms, a kitchenette with fridge and stove, 2 indoor bathrooms and a third outdoor one. The beds are comfortable and have mosquito nets. Apa Kabar is very safe for children and the kind staff are always eager to engage with the little ones. The pool is well shaded so can be enjoyed all day. The beach of small pebbles and black sand has snorkelling opportunities just a meter from shore. All sort of coral fish can be seen in the shallows without expensive diving material. You can rent good snorkels, masks and fins from a little stall on the beach right outside the Apa Kabar grounds. You can also take fishing boat tours from the same stall to discover the beautiful coastline, journey to a sunken japanese ship (for snorkel or dive) and see the magic sunset over the mountains. There are simple but tasty restaurants all around Apa Kabar and a well stocked convenience store 500m across the bridge. Food at Apa Kabar is also yummy and the surroundings make it a delightful dining experience. The town centre of Amed is located 7 minutes away by car - reception is always happy to help with transportation. If you are into nature walks, you can take trekks or bicycle rides in the amazingly lush forests that adorn the numerous mountains in the backdrop.

I came to Amed to do my PADI Open Water course and booked to stay at the Bila hotel. Initially I wanted to do the course at one the big dive schools in the area as I had not realized that Bila also offers it. But after meeting the very friendly owner Oliver and realizing that he would be my private dive instructor as there were no other students, I chose to do the course there. He was only slightly more expensive, but I guess this is reflected in the quality and I have not regretted this choice for a second. He was very friendly, patient and professional and, as far as possible, tailored the dives to my wishes. The dive equipment was very new. The hotel itself is excellent, the rooms are located next to a small garden and have nice verandas. Rooms are very clean, showers only have cold water but this is not an issue in the warm weather. Wifi connection in the room was slow and unstable, but this is no exception on Bali. Staff is friendly and the restaurant serves very good food. The pizza's are definitely worth a try, every meal comes with a free fruit plate and they offer cheap refills of filtered water. There are also a few good restaurants just down the road, ask the hotel for recommendations. All in all I really enjoyed my stay there and I highly recommend both the No Fear diving school and hotel!

I used this location as enough out of town and quite ,not so many guests in the complex and its a family business, whom i became friends with the niece of the Owner and engineer of building , so sound construction. Was there during many of the Lombok aftershock and earthquakes,which is directly across from Amed They were very kind , caring , concerned for their guests and all under lots of stress at this time . Why i return I know the facilities and the build and family. Its a great base for my stay whilst in Amed .

We loved all in Kelapa Cottage. The place was new, well kept, classy, built and managed with good taste. Breakfast was good and we ate 3 times at the restaurant - simply supertasty. Everything was so good except the location was little off for small kids, if you like to swim and need a nice beach for the kids for example, but we rented scooters from the hotel and it worked out OK. What else can I say - I truly recommend. :)

Amed is a town but it's also used to describe the area. This hotel/dive centre/restaurant attached is in Jemeluk and it's the exact spot all other dive companies come to dive the main Amed dive sites. Great beach in a bay with good snorkeling as well as superb diving. Coma was our DM and as a local he showed us great stuff. we had a room with a great view of the bay. bed was comfortable with good mosquito net. room was minimal otherwise but fine for a couple of nights. lots of little restaurants along this strip of coast that you can walk to or rent a motor bike. lots of people gathered on the high point of the this bay for great sunset view. strongly recommend groovy little Amed and Divers' Cafe.

You can walk easily to an amazing Itailan place (try the tenderloin beef) and the shipwreck snorkelling beach. Nice breakfast and local staff (one lives behind the villas, which is good as othereise you're on your own). Downside: air con not as effective as some (although big fan provided too, so I was ok even though I like it as cool as poss). Plus they need to fix their steps to the sea (no access on our visit). Oh and two of the Instrgammable temples are not far by car.

Very nice hotel! The rooms are clean, beautifully decorated and the little pool is great. We loved the breakfast by the pool! It is at the beginning or end of Amed so perfect to start exploring on scooter from there. The owner (who dropped by) is very nice and can answer your questions. The daily staff does not speak a lot of English, so asking about transport/scooters/where to go etc was not really possible. But other than that really great place!!

no need to think twice. By far the nicest place in the area. quiet and clean. staff cleans rooms diligently. Breakfast included with the room is sublime. Hosts and staff showed great hospitality and its all honest and sincere. cheap bike rental delivered quick and i will also say competitive price for airport transfers as well. One drawback for my stay was the a/c for the room we were in (didn't know about the other one) wasn't working perfectly. it just seems to blow normal air instead of cool air. but we kept trying with the remote for few hours each day and actually managed to get it nice and cool every night throughout our stay. Not sure if it anybody else will do as we did haha. we will not hesitate to come back nonetheless if amed is on the list again.

I really enjoyed my 3 night stay here while visiting Amed, Bali. The staff was super friendly, smiling, warm, and welcoming. They always asked how I was doing, and made sure I was comfortable. It was relaxing to come back after a day of diving or snorkeling, sit down at the restaurant and order a drink or snack. My room had a great view of the ocean and walking out onto the large balcony, I could see Mount Agung. The location is great, right next to local restaurants, dive shops, ATMs, markets, but I did not hear any noise from the street. There's also a pool where people swam and sunbathed. I hope to go back in the near future!

This is the kind of places that you will definitly want to share as a fantastic spot! If you want to visit more than touristic areas we highly recommend to choose Asri Buckit Lodge. Everything is a good surprise there: the house, the garden, the swiming pool area, bedrooms are much better than in pictures... but this is just the begining of what they have to offer. Then you are received by an amazing staff, and very very gentle hoss.. The food is only the best we had in all our stay: tipical and very tasting dishes. Not to forget the superb breakfast with fresh juice and fruits. From Asri you will then be able to visit rice fields (not overcrowded by tourist) temples, traditional villages, to do snorkling in Amed or go to sandy beach in Candidasa. You will be in the art of everything and received like kings. We will comeback without any doubt. Thank to Michael and all is staff!

My partner and I absolutely loved our stay at this resort! The staff were super helpful! Pros- 2 deep and beautifully landscaped pools surrounded by lush gardens. Cozy lounge, reading and group eating areas. Well planned layout of rooms and facilities offering privacy. Perfect location to all snorkeling and eating spots. Elevated position with great views and a big reduction in traffic noise. Great staff eager to please. Great dive instructors that are happy to tailor dive and snorkeling to your personal requirements... my partner being pregnant and unable to dive, the guide gave her perfect instruction on where to snorkel so that we would all meet up where the boat would be and at NO extra charge! We were delighted with him. Great value for money and a perfect place to stay with a group or family. I highly recommend taking a look as you can’t see any facilities from the street.

Small hotel with only 16 cottages, each designed thoughtfully with Balinese architecture complimenting contemporary comforts. Gardens are beautifully maintained and the swimming pool is jus amazing; surrounded by lovely frangipani trees that offer shade during sunny mornings/afternoons. Snorkeling is fantastic right on the beach; it is so accessible that our 6 year old daughter could not believe that just entering the waves on the beach can take her to the surreal world where colourful fish and unreal coral makes you wonder if it is real or our imagination. Even the view of the beautiful mountains (behind the hotel) while snorkeling is amazing. Rooms are well kept and bathroom is so well-designed that I was taking a shower couple of times a day just to savour the open-bathroom facility (with a view green mountains and huts while having a shower). Tumpek restaurant serves really cold beer (including Guiness) and tasty food. Their sister hotel few metres to the right (Mahi Mahi restaurant at Coral View Villas) serves really tasty pizzas, wraps, burgers and sandwiches. The garden, especially around the pool, looks so great once the sun does down; the aesthetic arrangement of hand-made lanterns across the garden is just breathtakingly beautiful. The view of the sea, the waves and the mountains at this time of the day cannot be described in words. The restaurant next door (Bali Bhuana Cottages) serves Bali's best Black Rice Pudding for mere IDR 25,000. Please try it and thank the beautiful staff who makes this wonderful dish. Many restaurants in Amed offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off for dining and we tried The Grill one day and it was just amazing. One of the best BBQ pork ribs I ever had was here. Their entrée of homemade bread and dips was very delicious as well. The owner (Australian lady) is super friendly and ensures people are happy with the food, service and the atmosphere. Cannot wait to stay another wonderful stay at this place. Highly recommended.
